The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1246

She turned to Rebecca, her voice dripping with false concern. "Miss Rebecca, I suggest you go back home. Antarctica is too dangerous. How can a girl like you handle all this?"

Rebecca ignored Kathie, her gaze still locked on Sammie, her voice painfully hoarse. "Sammie, Danielle is my best friend. I know you have a way. If you'll just help me…"

"Help you?" Sammie cut her off, the mockery in his eyes deepening. "Miss Rebecca, what makes you think I would help you?"

He took a step forward, looking down at her with a certain cruel clarity. "Our employment contract was terminated a long time ago. You are not my employer, and I am not your bodyguard. Your friend's life has nothing to do with me."

"Besides," Sammie’s eyes swept over her pale face, his tone as cold as ice, "do you really think you're in any position to be talking about saving people? If I hadn't sent my men in time, you'd be a frozen statue in this snowfield by now."

The words were a sharp blade, viciously tearing open the most vulnerable wound in Rebecca's heart.

Rebecca looked at him, then at the sweetly smiling Kathie beside him, and suddenly, she laughed.

"I see," Rebecca said, slowly pulling her gaze away. She leaned back against the headboard and closed her eyes, her voice terrifyingly calm. "I'm sorry to have bothered you."

She didn't want to look at him anymore, at his indifferent face, or listen to his heartless words.

Sensing his unease, Kathie gently shook his arm, her voice taking on a wheedling tone. "Sammie, let's go. The smell of antiseptic in here is awful. I don't like it."

Sammie took a deep breath, suppressing the turmoil in his heart. He gave Rebecca one last look, the coldness in his eyes hardening even more.

Without another word, he turned and left the ward, walking side by side with Kathie.
