The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1366

Kirsten took a deep breath, as if making a firm decision.

She stood up abruptly, grabbing her bag from the sofa. She moved so fast it looked like she was fleeing a crime scene.

Without even glancing at Gian, she gave Danielle a quick nod, her voice turning ice-cold. "I have some things to take care of, so I'm heading out. I won't be coming to the office for a while."

With that, she marched straight toward the door, her steps hurried, as if something terrifying were chasing her.

"Kirsten!"

Gian's voice was urgent. Almost instinctively, he rushed forward and blocked her path.

Forced to stop, Kirsten spun around.

She looked up at him, standing so close that her heart uncontrollably skipped a beat.

His jaw was tight, his profile sharp, and the bloodshot fatigue in his eyes hadn't faded. He looked incredibly worn down.

Kirsten looked away, staring at the hallway behind him. Her voice was rigid. "Move."

"Why are you avoiding me?" Gian stared down at her, his brow furrowed in genuine confusion. "We had a fake marriage. Just because we're divorced now, does that mean we can't even be friends?"

Kirsten clenched her fists so hard her knuckles turned white, a sharp pang hitting her chest.

How could she tell him that the fake marriage wasn't the problem? The problem was that she couldn't control her own heart.

Every time she looked at him, she remembered the days at city hall, the way he defended her at the Atwood mansion, the soft kiss he had pressed to her forehead when he was drunk.

Those memories were like thorns buried deep in her heart. She couldn't pull them out, and she couldn't swallow them down.

"We were never friends to begin with."
