The elevator descended in absolute silence, save for the frantic rhythm of his breathing.
Gian looked down at her. "Kirsten, I’m so sorry. This is my fault. Please don’t scare me like this."
When the doors opened, he rushed her out of the Zenith building, carefully buckling her into the passenger seat of his car.
He stripped off his tailored suit jacket and draped it over her, terrified she was too cold.
Getting behind the wheel, he slammed the gas and tore down the streets toward the nearest hospital.
His eyes constantly darted to her, filled with raw fear. He swore to himself that as soon as she woke up, he would explain everything and clear away the mess between them.

The tires screeched to a halt outside the emergency room.
Gian carried her inside, shouting, "I need a doctor, now! Help her!"
A swarm of nurses and doctors rushed over, transferring her to a gurney and wheeling her into a trauma room.
Gian stood outside the closed doors, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles turned white.
Meanwhile, back at Zenith Technologies, Chloe returned from her site visit. She instantly noticed the chaotic tension in the office.
Grabbing a coworker, she whispered, "What happened?"
When she heard the full story, Chloe’s face drained of color.
She never imagined Kirsten would stay up all night, and she certainly didn't anticipate Gian Atwood showing up just to end up rushing her to the hospital.
