The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 986

It was the day of Alexander and Lorie's engagement party.

For the past week, their names had dominated the headlines of both the business and gossip sections in Northridge City. One was the heir to The Davidson Group, the other the daughter of a senior executive in the aerospace industry. The media hailed their union as the perfect marriage of commerce and power, and the party was teeming with high-profile guests.

Yet, the atmosphere at the Atwood family estate was a stark contrast to the lively celebration at the hotel.

In the dining room, the light from a crystal chandelier gleamed on the mahogany table where Mr. and Mrs. Atwood sat with grim expressions. Across from them, Gian appeared perfectly calm, idly turning a pen between his fingers.

"Are you really not going?" Mr. Atwood finally asked, setting down his fork. His tone was stern, leaving no room for argument. "Everyone who's anyone in Northridge City is attending the Davidsons' engagement party. As the heir to The Atwood Group, it’s unacceptable for you not to go and maintain our connections."

Gian looked up, his eyes devoid of emotion. "My connections don't need to be maintained through empty pleasantries."

He placed the pen on the table and leaned forward slightly, his voice cool and clear. "Dad, you've lived long enough to know better than anyone that human nature is the least trustworthy thing of all. People who act like your best friend at a party today could turn on you tomorrow for profit."

"Then what do you plan to rely on?" Mrs. Atwood interjected, her voice filled with frustration at his stubbornness. "On your little tech projects? The rules of the business world aren't as simple as you think!"

"Mom, what am I supposed to do there? Watch those two show off their love, or make fake small talk with people I barely know?" Kirsten complained, slumping back in her seat.

Her mother patted her hand gently. "Just think of it as a chance to get out and maybe meet a few new friends. Besides," she added, "aren't you curious to see if Danielle is there? This is your chance to find out."

Kirsten rolled her eyes and grumbled to herself. If Danielle wanted to come, she would have come with me. Why would I need to play detective?

The car arrived at The Pinnacle Club, where the entrance was already lined with luxury cars. Kirsten followed her parents into the grand hall and was immediately struck by the scene. Crystal chandeliers sparkled dazzlingly, lavish floral arches adorned the entrance, and elegantly dressed guests mingled, champagne flutes in hand. The air was thick with the scent of money.
