Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 119

Kent glanced at Silvia, catching the way her eyes flickered away from his. He gave a faint, wry smile.

He didn’t ask why Silvia was unwilling to acknowledge their relationship—he simply turned his attention to Amy instead.

“There’s quite a bit to carry, so I helped her bring it up,” Kent said coolly, his voice edged with authority. “But Silvia is a qualified designer. Fetching snacks isn’t her job.”

He knew that Ashford Group’s employee perks were excellent. There was a dedicated catering team for afternoon tea—just a quick call, and everything would be delivered. There was absolutely no reason Silvia should have been sent on an errand.

Clearly, someone had arranged for her to do it.

And the only one with the authority to order Silvia around was the head of the design department—Amy.

Caught under Kent’s icy stare, Amy suddenly felt her spine stiffen. A chill crept up from the soles of her feet, making her shiver ever so slightly.

She couldn’t shake the feeling that Kent had seen right through her little scheme.

Silvia noticed Kent’s gaze lingering on Amy and, after a moment’s thought, realized what was going on.

Still, she didn’t react much—she just found it odd.

She’d only been at the company for a couple of days and had barely exchanged more than a few words with Amy. So why did Amy already seem to have it out for her?

Silvia studied Amy, her brow furrowing slightly.

“It’s not what you think, Silvia,” Amy blurted out, scrambling to explain.

She didn’t know why, but Silvia’s gaze made her uneasy. It felt almost as if Silvia were her superior instead of the other way around.

Yet Silvia looked no more than a fresh graduate, though she carried herself with a poise Amy couldn’t quite place.

The two of them left the design department, their elegant, dignified silhouettes disappearing down the hallway. Amy watched them go, her expression unreadable. She straightened her back, let out a rueful laugh, and sighed.

Downstairs, Silvia stopped in front of Kent. She looked apologetic. “Mr. Parsons, I didn’t mean to introduce you as just a friend. It’s just… I’m not used to all this yet.”

“It’s alright.” Kent saw the guilt in her eyes, and something dark flickered in his own. “With me, Silvia, you can just be yourself. There’s no need to hold back.”

She shouldn’t have to be this way.

He didn’t know what had happened—or who had changed her into the person she was now. In his memory, Silvia had always been radiant and full of life.

Silvia nodded, feeling even more sorry. It seemed like he was the one always accommodating her.

After seeing Kent off, Silvia returned to the design department. Amy was still waiting by the door, as if she’d been standing there on purpose.
