Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 124

Hearing Finn’s words, Silvia raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile tugging at her lips. “Since when did you and Yvette get so close, big brother?” she asked, half-joking.

As far as Silvia remembered, Finn and Yvette hadn’t met that many times. Just the occasional visits back when she’d brought Yvette over to the Ashford family estate. Even then, the two had barely exchanged more than a few words.

But looking at them now, it was as if they’d become old friends.

All of a sudden, a thought struck Silvia. She recalled that, back when she was still living in Luminova City, she’d overheard Yvette mention Finn’s name on the phone.

Noticing Silvia’s gaze fixed on him, Finn pressed his lips together, coughed lightly, and looked away, clearly a bit flustered.

After a moment, he squared his shoulders, met Silvia’s eyes, and said plainly, “I like Yvette.”

He didn’t bother with any pretense. The way his ears turned slightly red betrayed his embarrassment, but his words were completely straightforward.

Silvia fell silent. She really hadn’t seen this coming—her own brother and her best friend?

“What about Yvette?” she finally asked, though she was already pretty sure of the answer.

Knowing Yvette as well as she did, if her friend liked Finn or was dating him, she definitely would’ve told Silvia by now. But she hadn’t heard a word.

Which could only mean Yvette didn’t feel the same way.

Silvia sighed softly. “Have you told her how you feel?” she asked.

Finn shook his head. “No.” His eyes lingered on Yvette, who was still hunched over, looking pale and sick. There was a hint of pain in his gaze. “You know what she’s like.”

She’d never been one to meddle in other people’s love lives, so she kept her tone light. “Well, good luck, Finn. You never know—someone like Yvette, she just might be moved by your sincerity.”

Finn let out a resigned sigh. “Some encouragement that is.”

At nine o’clock that evening, Silvia’s phone rang again. It was Kent. His voice, low and gentle through the receiver, sounded almost like a whisper. “Silvia, it’s getting late. Which hospital are you at? I’ll come pick you up.”

Silvia glanced over at Finn sitting nearby, then gave Kent the name of the hospital.

She figured it wouldn’t hurt to give her brother and Yvette a little time alone together.

Who knew? Maybe something would finally happen between them.
