Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 166

“Buckle up.”

Without another word, Laurinda floored the gas. The sports car shot forward like an arrow loosed from a bow, engine roaring as they tore down the city street.

Silvia wasn’t used to this kind of breakneck speed. She gripped the seatbelt with white-knuckled hands, her delicate brows drawn tight the whole way.

By the time they reached the shopping mall they’d agreed on, Silvia’s complexion had gone noticeably pale.

The moment she stepped out, she rushed straight to a trash bin and emptied her stomach.

No one had warned her that Laurinda’s driving could be this terrifying.

Capital City traffic was notoriously heavy—normally, even a sports car would be stuck crawling along. But Laurinda must have known all the backroads, because she sped through quiet streets as if they belonged to her, foot never leaving the accelerator.

“Silvia, you’re still young. Why do you look more shaken up than I am?” Laurinda teased, handing Silvia a bottle of water, eyes sparkling with amusement.

Silvia just drank the water quietly, saying nothing.

Once she’d pulled herself together, they headed into the mall, Silvia following a step behind Laurinda like a cautious shadow.

Laurinda seemed to be here for nothing more than a shopping spree. She dragged Silvia from store to store, holding up outfits and asking for opinions, and in the end, insisted on paying for a piece of jewelry to “gift” Silvia, refusing to take no for an answer.

With bags in hand, Laurinda led Silvia to a restaurant in the mall. Settling into a booth across from Silvia, she regarded her with a smile that was both curious and appraising.

Silvia noticed the stare and asked calmly, “Aunt Laurinda, is there something on my face?”

Silvia’s expression flickered.

Kent had, in fact, given her a staggeringly large dowry. But after all this time, why was Laurinda suddenly bringing it up?

Whenever money was involved, Silvia’s guard went up.

She looked at Laurinda coolly, letting out a soft laugh, her tone as casual as if they were discussing the weather. “I’m not too sure. I only just got back to Capital City, and the arrangements were all made between Kent and my family.”

In other words, she had no idea of the exact amount.

But Laurinda clearly wasn’t satisfied with that answer. She pressed on, “I heard Kent transferred the entire dowry into your name. Even so, you really don’t know how much it is?”
