Worried about Kent’s condition, Silvia didn’t even notice that something felt off about his weight as she helped him. All that mattered was getting him back to his bed as quickly as possible.
Once she had returned Kent to his hospital bed, Silvia took a deep breath. “You need to rest,” she said gently. “I’m going to the ER to find a doctor for you, okay?”
“Alright.”
Kent didn’t protest. He just sat quietly on the edge of the bed, watching Silvia leave.
When the door closed behind her, he shifted slightly, a sharp glint flickering in his narrowed eyes.
Strangely enough, after Silvia’s touch, his pain seemed to have eased a little.
The thought brought a subtle smile to Kent’s lips.
Not long after, Silvia came back with a doctor. After giving Kent a quick examination and prescribing some medication, the doctor left the room.
By then, dawn was breaking. The faint light outside seeped through the window, and Silvia rubbed her brow, feeling exhaustion settle deep in her bones. After a sleepless night, she knew she didn’t have it in her to go into the office. Her team would have to manage without her today.
She pulled out her phone, typed a quick message to her staff, and glanced back at Kent.
A moment later, she said, “I’ll keep an eye on you today. If you feel even the slightest bit unwell, you have to tell me. Don’t try to tough it out.”
“Okay.”
Kent hesitated, but seeing that there were other doctors and nurses with Nannie, he nodded. Maybe Silvia needed to talk to Nannie herself, before things got worse.
He watched Silvia leave the room, shutting his eyes and frowning slightly. Nannie was trouble—there was no denying that.
Meanwhile, in the next room, Nannie snatched the pillow from behind her and hurled it at the doctor. Her face was pale, twisted with rage, and she glared at everyone who approached.
The pillow landed right at the doorway, smacking Silvia as she stepped inside.
Silvia frowned, a flicker of impatience in her eyes. She locked her gaze on Nannie, narrowing her eyes, and stared her down.
For a moment, the room was silent. Then Nannie shouted, her voice raw, “You pushed me! And now you have the nerve to come here?!”
