Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 211

Silvia was technically the junior here, but now, she was the one saying she’d be doing Laurinda a favor.

Laurinda let out a laugh, sharp and incredulous, as if Silvia had just told the best joke she’d heard all week. She clutched her stomach and stared right at Silvia.

“Silvia, I have to say, I like you better this way. So much more interesting than that fake sweetness you used to put on.”

Her eyes narrowed in an almost playful arc.

Laurinda swung open the car door and gestured for Silvia to get in. “Relax, I won’t speed this time. Promise.”

But Silvia barely had time to fasten her seatbelt before Laurinda floored the gas, the car lurching forward with a deafening roar.

Laurinda had done her homework, mapping out the quietest roads in the city so she could push the car to its limits. She paid no mind to traffic laws, focused only on the thrill of acceleration.

By the time Silvia stumbled out of the car, she was just as sick as last time—leaning over and retching at the curb.

Laurinda watched her with a crooked smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. She stepped up beside Silvia, giving a soft, mocking hum. “Really, Silvia? You need more practice. How are you this delicate? It was just a little speed—you can’t even keep up with me.”

Silvia caught the edge of ridicule in Laurinda’s tone and frowned.

Was this it? Had they finally dropped all pretenses, their animosity out in the open? Or was Laurinda just trying to put her in her place?

Silvia suspected the latter. If Laurinda truly wanted to burn bridges, she wouldn’t have bothered inviting her out to lunch.

Lunch—that was the real reason they were here.

Laurinda propped her chin in her hand, an amused glint in her eyes. “Oh? You really are clever, Silvia. No wonder Kent chose you. But do you know what it is I want from the dowry?”

Silvia met her gaze and saw the predatory gleam there, as if Laurinda were sizing up her next meal. Silvia couldn’t help but let out a sharp laugh.

She was suddenly struck by the thought that Kent’s aunt might just be unhinged.

The last time she’d come after her, it was to get her hands on the dowry. And now she was circling back again, playing this little game?

“Aunt Laurinda, you just think Kent gave me too much. You want to ‘help me keep it safe.’”

As she said the words “keep it safe,” Silvia’s jaw tightened, and her tone grew sharper.
