Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 44

Hardy had barely hit the ground before he opened his mouth to curse, but then he looked up and froze. It was Kent.

His lips began to tremble.

“Mr... Mr. Parsons...”

In all of Luminova City, there was only one man Hardy truly feared—Kent.

A year ago, before the wound on his head had even healed, Kent had shown up at his door and beaten him within an inch of his life.

After that, Kent had even swooped in and snatched two major projects from The Upton Group, leaving Hardy with nothing but humiliation.

“Hardy,” Kent said, his voice cold and sharp as he looked down at the man kneeling before him. “There’s no place for you in Luminova City anymore. You can leave on your own, or I’ll have someone break your legs and throw you out. Your choice.”

“I... I swear, it’s not... it’s not what you think, Mr. Parsons. I can explain, really—”

But Hardy couldn’t help noticing how tightly Kent held Silvia, keeping her close and shielded. Both times Hardy had clashed with Kent, Silvia had been involved. Was it just a coincidence?

A cold, sick feeling twisted in Hardy’s stomach as the realization hit him.

Kent pulled Silvia closer, feeling the tremble still running through her body. His voice was ice. “I’ve already turned your evidence over to the police, Hardy. I’ll be following up personally.”

Until now, The Upton Group had always bailed Hardy out of trouble, but this time, with Kent watching him like a hawk, there was no chance of wriggling free.

With that, Kent led Silvia out of the private lounge, ignoring Hardy’s desperate, furious shouts behind them.

Outside Vespera Lounge, Kent guided Silvia into his car. He glanced at her swollen cheek and the wild tangle of her hair, his eyes darkening with anger.

But Kent said nothing. He simply started the engine and drove her straight to the hospital.

Silvia slowly came back to herself as the car pulled up outside the emergency entrance. She looked at the hospital and tried to smile, though it came out strained and bitter.

This was the third time Kent had brought her to the hospital.

“Thank you for saving me, Mr. Parsons. I can see the doctor myself—I don’t want to trouble you any further.”
