Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 6

Shipley paused, his striking hazel eyes flicking carelessly over Silvia’s retreating figure.

Her back was ramrod straight, steps brisk and decisive; in no time, she’d vanished from sight.

She was always like this—cold as stone, stubborn as they come.

Suddenly, thunder cracked overhead. Shipley’s brows knit together. He was just about to go after her when Vianne’s soft, trembling voice reached him: “It’s about to rain, and I’m all alone. I’m really scared…”

In the end, Shipley didn’t follow Silvia.

Because he knew she wouldn’t get far.

In a city like Luminova, Silvia had no friends, no family—no one but him.

Where could she possibly go?

She’d be back soon enough.

Silvia truly had nowhere to turn. The moment she stepped outside, the skies opened and rain poured down in sheets.

She’d left in such a hurry she hadn’t even grabbed her phone, and now stood awkwardly under the awning of a convenience store, drenched and shivering.

Watching the rain blur the world beyond the glass, Silvia felt a dull ache settle in her chest.

Three years ago, when she first arrived in Luminova, it had been the rainy season too.

Once, caught in a downpour without an umbrella, they’d been just steps from the car when Shipley shrugged off his expensive tailored blazer and held it over her head.

Back in the car, she’d worried about the ruined jacket—so costly, and now unwearable. Shipley had only laughed, his eyes shining in the gloom. “It’s just a jacket. You’re what matters most to me.”

Those eyes, warm and brilliant, had once felt like the brightest thing in her world.

Now, he couldn’t even be bothered to bring her an umbrella.

Silvia let out a hollow laugh.

Just then, the convenience store’s glass doors slid open with a rush of warm air and the cashier’s chipper “Come again soon!” A tall man with broad shoulders and an athletic build stepped out.

“Silvia, here—take this.” His deep, cool voice cut through the rain.
