Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 60

Silvia looked as if she wanted to say something, but after a moment, she simply dropped her gaze and stayed silent.

Kent watched her, a quiet smile lingering at the corners of his mouth as he studied the woman sitting across from him, her head bowed over her meal.

Back in Luminova City, she'd always seemed hesitant and troubled, her eyes shadowed with uncertainty and melancholy. But now, here in the heart of the Capital, her whole demeanor was softer, more at ease. As she ate, her cheeks puffed out adorably, reminding Kent of a little chipmunk hoarding food for winter.

His eyes darkened, but a fleeting smile flickered in their depths. From now on, he promised himself, as long as he was by her side, he’d never let that haunted look return to her face.

The meal seemed to stretch on forever, and Silvia realized it had been ages since she’d eaten with such appetite.

When she finally looked up and took in the “aftermath” on the table, she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, bathing the room in a gentle glow and making the smile on her face even more radiant.

Kent nearly forgot himself, caught up in the sight.

Silvia pointed at the mess in front of them, her voice light and teasing. “Mr. Parsons, you kept piling food onto my plate, but look at your side—nothing but leftovers. You’re making me look spoiled.”

“In front of me, you’re allowed to be spoiled.”

Kent’s tone was steady, his voice low and rich, carrying just a hint of temptation.

Meeting his intense gaze, Silvia’s smile slowly faded. She looked away, suddenly self-conscious.

After a long pause, she said quietly, “You don’t have to go to all this trouble. I would marry you anyway. Our families arranged this a long time ago.”

The night she’d thrown away her prayer beads, Silvia had promised herself never to fall into the same trap twice.

Love—she no longer dared to touch it.

Kent was gentle and attentive, but she couldn’t let her guard down.

This was just a family alliance. If Kent ever wanted to walk away, at least she’d be able to leave with dignity, not shattered like before.

Kent could see how prickly and defensive she was, like a small hedgehog bristling with quills. He felt a pang of helplessness, but didn’t rush to explain himself. Instead, he shifted the conversation.
