Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 76

He would choose her simply because she was the perfect Mrs. Parsons for him.

Kent had impeccable manners and was willing to give her a flawless ceremony—at least on the surface. He was also the kind of man who would never cheat.

For Silvia, that was enough.

She didn’t ask for more.

“I trust you, Mr. Parsons.” She managed a smile, though her voice was a little tight.

Kent seemed to relax as well. “About Nannie—when the time is right, I’ll explain everything.”

Whether he explained or not, Silvia didn’t really care.

As long as Kent stayed faithful, she wouldn’t pry.

Once things were said, they hung up.

Silvia lay in bed, unable to settle her mind. She tossed and turned for a long time before finally drifting off to sleep.

———

The engagement party was just a day away.

The Ashford house was swept up in celebration. The elegant rooms had been plastered with bright, oversized banners and hearts, making the atmosphere feel almost stifling.

When Silvia stepped out of her room and saw the decorations, she couldn’t help but laugh.

Anyone walking in might think she was getting married, not just engaged.

Finn was running around with his phone, angling for the perfect shot of the invitations. He turned and grinned at Silvia. “Come on, my little sister’s getting engaged! The whole world needs to know. I’ve got to brag about this on social media, right?”

“Knock yourself out.”

Finn’s infectious grin lifted Silvia’s mood.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen—it was an old colleague calling.
