After a few seconds, Darryl snapped back to his senses. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves; he was unable to contain his excitement!
He had decided that if no one bid for the piece of jade, he would buy it.
On the auction stage...
The man presiding over the auction heard the grumbles from the crowd and explained with a smile. "This piece of jade is of high quality, but the words engraved on it are rather weird. Duke Rowan got this piece of jade by chance, and he did not know what it was for. Therefore, he offered this up for auction!"
The man looked around. "The starting price for this piece of jade is a thousand gold coins. Now, let's begin."
A thousand gold coins?
Many people around shook their heads and chuckled.
It was just a piece of jade. How could it possibly be worth so much?
The guests present were all celebrities and dignitaries; they were well-informed and knowledgeable. Who would be willing to bid for such a useless thing?
For a moment, there was awkward silence around. None of the people present made a bid.
The man presiding over the auction was a little embarrassed; he prepared to withdraw the piece of jade!
"A thousand gold coins!"
However, a faint voice sounded unexpectedly. It was Darryl!
In an instant, all eyes were on Darryl.
'Err... Does the live-in son-in-law want to bid for the piece of jade? Is he out of his mind?'
Jordan, who was sitting nearby, was the first to react. He burst into laughter. "You'd spend a thousand gold coins on a piece of jade? Should you be taking medicine?"
Jordan continued scornfully. "Besides, you are a live-in son-in-law. Do you even have a thousand gold coins? Are you asking your wife to pay for you?"
There was a fit of laughter.
Lolita tugged on Darryl's sleeve. "What do you want to do with that piece of jade?"
"I can make use of it!" Darryl responded solemnly, "Don't worry; I won't get you to pay for it. I have a thousand gold coins!"
