Vernon laughed when he heard that. "Do you seriously think that you, of all people, can make the Queen change her mind?"
The Queen took that opportunity to move behind the ivory bed quietly.
"Well, it seems like we have reached an impasse," Darryl said with a shrug. "The Queen knows what you're thinking about. Even if you killed me, you still wouldn't let her sister go, right?"
Vernon scoffed at him. He could not be bothered to explain further. At the same time, he realized the Queen had disappeared. Just when he thought something was not right, he sensed a dangerous aura coming from the ivory bed. From his point of view, Darryl could see the Queen flung herself toward Vernon while holding a golden sword in her hand. However, the same thing could not be said for Vernon.
The golden glint of the sword blinded Vernon. By the time he could open his eyes again, the golden sword had already pierced through his heart, and his blood was trickling down, staining the floor red.
"You—" Vernon said when he saw the Queen. His voice was shaking with pain and shock. 'How did I not see her coming?' He collapsed to the floor, and even in his last dying moment, he still had no clue Darryl's formation was the real cause of his death.
Angeline had also fainted due to the lack of oxygen when Vernon drew his last breath.
"Angeline!" The Queen checked up on her sister and only breathed a sigh of relief when she was sure Angeline was fine.
Then she turned to look at Darryl with eyes full of surprise and questions. 'He really did it! It worked just as he said. But how could that be?'
"Who are you? Explain yourself!" the Queen ordered.
Darryl moved the table, chairs, and divider into their original place. He smiled when he heard the Queen's question. "Your Majesty, please do not panic. I'm actually—" He did not get to finish his sentence when they heard footsteps. He quickly hid behind the ivory bed.
The Queen frowned and was about to chastise him when she realized it was for the best. She was the Queen, after all. What would the other people say if they had discovered a stranger in her room?
Darryl hid in the nick of the time as ten royal guards barged into the room. "Your Majesty!"
"We have captured all the assassins, and they're undergoing preliminary trials as we speak. The leader of the group is called Dyane Murphy," the commander said. He was shocked—Marquis Vernon was lying in a pool of blood, and about ten people, including Angeline, were unconscious on the floor.
The Queen sat down on the ivory bed and nodded. "Vernon and his men tried to kill me, and I managed to take him out. Spread the news across the principality." Then with a wave of her hand, she said, "Remove his body now."
"Yes, Your Majesty!" The royal guards took Vernon's body and his men while the maids brought Angeline back to her room.
