The palace was thrown into a state of panic as a few of the royal guards rushed out to find an apothecary. It seemed as if they had forgotten about Darryl.
"Your Majesty!" An old man rushed into the Queen's room with some medicines. "Quick, take this."
The old man, Darius Watsons, was the Queen's apothecary. Everyone in the room collectively breathed out a sigh of relief when they saw him.
"Wait!" Darryl shouted before the Queen could take the medicine. "Your Majesty, you shouldn't take that medicine in your current condition. It might worsen your injuries."
Darryl had very high attainments in medical skills, and he could tell at a glance that the Queen had damaged her heart vein during the fight with Vernon's subordinates. Even though Darius's medicine could temporarily relieve the pain, it would not help with the root cause.
The Queen, Darius, and everyone else in the room turned to stare at Darryl with an odd expression on their face. Finally, the Queen asked, "How do you know that?"
"I have studied medicine before. Besides, I was there when you were fighting against Vernon's subordinates, so I'm well aware of your current condition!"
The Queen became dumbfounded at his reply. Darius and the royal guards could not stifle their roaring laughter at all.
"A convict with medical skills?" They continued to laugh.
"One look at you, and I could tell you're a liar through and through."
"Don't listen to him, Your Majesty. That medicine is specially formulated to heal internal injuries. I'm sure it will work for you," Darius said. Then he stared daggers at Darryl. How dare Darryl humiliate him—the Queen's apothecary—in front of the Queen like that.
Darryl paid no mind to them and took a pill from his pocket. "Your Majesty, this is a Heart Tempering Pill. One can say it's a miracle cure for any internal injuries. Why don't you take this instead?"
The Heart Tempering Pill was specially formulated to heal any damage to the heart vein. Half a year ago, Darryl had made a few of them and had been carrying them ever since.
Everyone frowned at his words; no one had heard of a Heart Tempering Pill before. Darius stopped Darryl as he was making his way to the Queen to give her the pill.
"How dare you give something of unknown origin to the Queen? Are you trying to poison her?" Darius shouted angrily. Then he turned to the Queen and said, "Your Majesty, don't believe that man's words. We still don't know what his intentions are."
"Yes! He's a convict, after all!"
"We should lock him up!"
Once again, Darryl was left with the conundrum of whether he should laugh or cry at how events were unfolding. 'D*mn, these people sure don't trust easily."
