Lolita bit her lips until it almost bled. She was staring at Darryl with a face filled with shock, and she felt as if her legs had turned into jelly. She finally realized the man she had married was as profound as the ocean itself.
Darryl exhaled lightly and half-smiled at Grady. "Are you still going to deny what you've done?"
"I admit it! I admit it!" Grady said. He was sweating profusely and found it difficult to stand. He then told them everything—how he hired an assassin to kill Old Master Damien and how he colluded with Seth to pin the crime on Darryl.
If he had a choice, Grady would not have admitted to his crime, but alas, he had no choice after he discovered Darryl to be the Saint Lord of the Temple of Lights. With the 12 paladins watching his every move, he was sure he would end up with a fate worse than death if he did not admit to his crime.
Another round of uproar ensued in the hall.
"So, it was Master Grady all along!"
"I would have never guessed!"
"We were all fooled by him!"
They all turned their eyes on him. If Grady had not pinned the crime on Darryl, they would not have gotten on Darryl's bad side.
"Grady! You're worse than an animal! Why did you kill my grandfather? Why?!" Lolita asked as she trembled and glared at him with hatred. She hated herself for not trusting Darryl. It was all Grady's fault!
Grady was scared to death of Lolita's anger and discovered he had lost his voice, so he continued to kneel on the ground, trembling.
"Lolita, sadness will not bring your grandfather back. Grady has already admitted to his guilt, and you, as the Mayor, can decide on his punishment," Darryl said in a tone that was meant to comfort her.
Lolita gestured for the guards to lock Grady in jail. All the guests started to panic. At that moment, Darryl looked at them and said, "Do you have any more questions? If not, feel free to kneel before me and apologize." He smiled and continued to say, "Of course, you can choose to refuse but don't ever think you can stay in Pearl City after this."
His words left no room for doubt. After all, he was the Saint Lord of the Temple of Light; even the royal members from the six grand principalities had to bow before him, let alone the people of Pearl City?
The guests glanced at each other with ashen faces. They started to feel suffocated. Some of the more cowardly guests found it hard to stand—their legs had turned into jelly. How could they not be shocked when they had relegated Darryl to the role of a fugitive and then to discover he had become the man who held the fate of all the citizens in Pearl City?
Finally, Marnie was the first to kneel. "I'm so sorry, Darryl!" Her previous arrogance had been entirely replaced by fear. After that, they all fall to the ground one after another. They did it so grudgingly, but that humiliation was minor compared to what would have happened if they had not kneeled and apologized.
Darryl remained expressionless. He turned toward Donnie and asked, "Donnie, correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard you stole Lolita's position as the head of the family."
