Perfect Husband, The Destined One novel Chapter 3511

Madame Pandora's face was solemn when she answered Darryl, but her palm was sweating. She was in a panic.

Judging by her expression, Darryl did not think she was lying. "Fine, let's drop the subject. I do have another question. What are you doing out of the capital? Why would you bring your family to a place like this?"

Madame Pandora bit her lips; one could almost see the wheels spinning in her mind. She said, "To tell you the truth, with how the current situation is going, I don't think I can stay in the capital anymore."

"Why?" Darryl asked quizzically.

Madame Pandora smiled, but her smile did not reach her eyes. "For the last two years, I have been completely under Marshall's thumb. I have had no choice but to carry out his order of using my beauty to cause the fall of other families. Now that he had fallen, I am without his protection, and those families would definitely seek their revenge upon me, so that's why my family and I have to get out of the capital as soon as possible. The men-in-black must have been sent by one of those families. Otherwise, the leader would not have ended his own life."

Madame Pandora looked so sad and pitiful as she said all that. She hoped that the lie she made up about Harper's identity would dispel any doubt Darryl might have about the whole situation.

Darryl stayed silent for a while before asking, "So, does that mean you don't know where the Holy Jade Scripture is?"

Madame Pandora quickly shook her head. "How would I know? The influential families must have found out the Holy Jade Scripture is lost and so decided to pin the crime on me."

Madame Pandora's acting was top-notch. Any man, including Darryl, would have melted at her pitiful sight. Darryl had completely fallen for her lies—hook, line, and sinker.

"Madame, there's no need for you to leave the capital. I'm sure the Queen will ask the other families to grant you a pardon if you tell her that you were threatened by Marshall and had no choice but to carry out his orders," Darryl said after thinking about it. "You and your family should follow me back to the capital, and I'll help you tell the Queen if you're too scared to do that." He looked earnest when he said that.

"I—" Madame Pandora was in a real dilemma. How could she go back to the capital when she had stolen the Holy Jade Scripture? Then again, how could she reject Darryl's offer when he had offered it in such good faith?

After a few seconds, she finally calmed down. She smiled at Darryl and said, "Let's talk about it later. Many of my guards have been wounded by the men-in-black, and to be honest, I'm a little tired too. So, if you don't mind, I would like to rest now." The only thing she could do was to stall for some time.

"Sure!" Darryl said with a nod.

Madame Pandora was happy that Darryl did not push her for an answer. She quickly ordered the maid to build a bonfire and the guards to tend to their wounds. After a few minutes, there was already a bonfire crackling and a tent beside it.

Inside the tent, Darryl and Madame Pandora were sitting facing each other. Madame Pandora had poured two glasses of wine for both of them. She passed him a glass, smiled, and said, "Darren, I'm so glad you came at the right time. I couldn't possibly imagine how things would turn out if you did not appear."

Under the light of the bonfire, Madame Pandora's face was flushed, making her look truly ravishing.

"Madame, you're too kind," Darryl said with a smile. He wished Madame Pandora would go back with him to the capital at that very instant, but he knew that he would have to give her time to rest after what had happened.

"By the way, why do you seem more anxious than the Queen to get back the Holy Jade Scripture?" Madame Pandora asked with a twinkle in her eyes.
