The crowd began to whisper amongst themselves.
"Skylar makes a sound argument."
"Shh, keep your voice down. Don't forget we're at the Heavenly Alliance."
'Sh*t!' Cayden did not know what he should do then. The celebration banquet was meant to be a deterrence strategy. They hoped that those who had not joined the Heavenly Alliance would join on their own initiative. However, it seemed like Skylar's words had derailed the plan. He wanted to take action against Skylar and drive him out, but it would be counterproductive. After all, everyone was looking at him, waiting for his next move.
Darryl heaved a sigh of relief and glanced at Skylar. 'He's good.'
Finally, Cayden forced a smile and said, "There seems to be a misunderstanding, Master Blanc. Whatever happened here was between Darryl and me. It has nothing to do with the Heavenly Alliance."
Then he glared at Darryl and said, "You should thank Master Blanc for getting you off the hook this time."
Then, he left with the other Heavenly Alliance disciples. He had no choice but to bide for his time since the Cloud Valley sect was precisely the type of organization that the Heavenly Alliance wanted on their side.
Darryl chuckled and pretended he did not hear what Cayden had said. Debra heaved a sigh of relief and smiled at Cayden. "Thank you, Master Blanc, for helping us out."
She felt uncomfortable at the way he was staring at her. It was as if he was undressing her with his eyes. No matter what, he deserved to be thanked for helping them out.
"You're welcome! I'm only doing what's right," Skylar said with a smile. Then, he walked toward her and extended his hands. "You must be the legendary Goddess of the Great East, Miss Debra Gable, right? My name is Skylar Blanc, and I only joined the world of cultivators yesterday. I'm looking forward to working with you in the future."
Up close, she was even more beautiful than he could ever have imagined.
"It's nice to meet you," Debra said with a smile as she shook his hand. Then, she gracefully stood by Darryl's side. She made sure to be polite with Skylar even though she could not stand the way his eyes were roaming over her body.
"This is my husband, Darryl. He is the Elysium Gate's former sect master," she said as she grabbed Darryl's arm with a blissful look on her face. She was trying to let him know that she was taken so that he would get the hint.
The corners of Skylar's lips curled upward. He glanced at Darryl casually and said, "The Elysium Gate's former sect master? That means he's a nobody right now. Forgive me for being ignorant, but I have never heard of him before."
His face fell. "And it's a pity a beauty like you is already taken."
He did not attempt to conceal his disdain for Darryl as he said that. After all, he only spoke up because he wanted to win Debra's heart. He seethed in anger at the sight of his dream girl happily married to another man. Under those circumstances, it was not surprising for Skylar not to have a favorable view of Darryl.
Debra was displeased, but she could not do anything about it. There were too many people watching their every move.
