'Master Joe?' Everyone became excited at the mention of the famous appraiser's name. He would know for sure whether the jade fan was the real deal. The owner quickly went to get him.
Soon, he came back with a salt-and-pepper-haired old man, who looked to be about 60 years old. He was dressed in an ash-white robe and looked to be in good spirits.
The crowd became even more excited when they saw the old man.
"It's Master Joe!"
"We'll know once and for all whether the jade fan is real!"
Darryl remained standing leisurely where he was. He knew Simon Joe very well as they were both Stellan's apprentices. In fact, he was his senior for having joined earlier than Simon.
"Master Joe, this is the jade fan I told you about. Can you please check whether that was made during the Song Dynasty? That customer there had paid two million for it, so I want to make sure that all his doubts are dispelled," the owner said as he passed the jade fan to Simon.
Simon nodded and repeatedly turned the jade fan over.
Finally, he shook his head and said, "You must have been careless when receiving this fan. This is a perfect counterfeit. The colors in the veins are made by distressing the jade. Brilliantly done, but a fake nonetheless. You should refund the money."
He patted the owner on the shoulder. The owner was struck speechless, while the onlookers were in an uproar.
