Watching the Archfiend Antigonus retreat, Princess Dorothy heaved a sigh of relief.
She hurriedly turned to thank the Jade Immortal. "Thank you, Immortal."
The Jade Immortal grinned and waved his hands. "You're absolutely welcome. I'd snuck a bite of your father's royal meals, and now I've saved your life in return. I'd like to think I've cleared my debt, heh heh…"
Upon saying so, he came over to check on Princess Dorothy's wounds.
"Sigh… your fairy soul's been destroyed. That's no good," frowned the Jade Immortal upon inspection.
Princess Dorothy smiled blankly. "Thank you for your kindness, Senior. I think I'm lucky enough to even be alive."
A thought seemed to come to her as she looked around. "Ah. Where are your partners, Senior?"
"Ha ha…"
At the question, the Jade Immortal could not help the laugh that escaped him. He sounded as if he had just gotten away with a wicked prank. In a low voice he whispered, "Shh, keep it down. I was just threatening the Archfiend Antigonus. What partners? I've always traveled alone."
Pfft…
At the sight of his smug glee, Princess Dorothy could not help but let go of her grief briefly and laugh along as well.
"Alright. Since we were fated enough to meet, I'll bring you somewhere to see if you can reconstruct your fairy soul," the Jade Immortal said as he helped Princess Dorothing up, soaring off into the heavens on an auspicious cloud.
…
Meanwhile.
Upon bidding goodbye to Chester, Veron hurried back to the Five Poison Sect.
In the back lounge, he saw Skylar seated and drinking tea. Next to him were Kendall and a few other disciples of the Five Poison Sect, standing in silence.
Upon seeing Veron enter, a smile broke out on Skylar's face. He said lightly, "Back so soon? How are things?"
Veron bit her lip, trying to contain the anxiety in her chest. She saluted. "I'm happy to report I did not disappoint! The Carters were pretty much completely annihilated by the Hidden Hero Sect, save for one Darryl Darby— whom we cannot locate at all."
"Very well, a job well done…"
At these words, Skylar's face was the picture of glee. He nodded in commendation. "Not bad. I knew you wouldn't let me down. It's getting late, go get some rest!"
"Yes…" Veron mumbled in acknowledgment, exiting the lounge.
Upon getting out, she sighed in relief internally.
Thank heavens his acting skills made the cut. She had managed to convince Skylar, as well as hide the fact that he had come upon the soul-sucking bloodworms.
