"Absolutely not!"
Yvette shook her head as soon as his words rang through the air, the look on her face one of fierce determination.
Yvette hated war and battles with a vengeance, for the people who bore the most suffering from them were none other than innocent civilians. More importantly, Lord Kenny had been responsible for her father's death. How could she help him at all?
As if he had expected Yvette's rejection from the start, Skylar heaved a great sigh. He spoke in a patient tone. "I know you have bad blood with Lord Kenny, Lady Lane, but I hope you can put it behind you for the sake of our glory. I promise you I will be sure to sing your praises to the Honorable Archfiend once we take over the Nine Mainland.
"You'll be able to have whatever you want once you gain the Honorable Archfiend's favor. Just think—Archfiend Antigonus has never gotten along with the Carter family members and is sure to attack them when he strikes. But with our victory, he will not make a move on the Carter family members, right?
"Also, I've gotten you the second half of that Reverse fiend Soul Takeover spell."
Skylar pulled out a golden scroll.
Yvette's eyes flashed at the sight of the scroll; her gaze was razor-sharp.
Yet, she did not agree to his request.
What were they talking about?
Outside the temple, Jewel panicked from where she hid. She was too far away and thus could not hear a word of what Yvette and Skylar were saying.
Jewel wanted nothing more than to get closer, but she knew that Skylar was powerful enough to sense movement if she got any further.
Under those circumstances, Jewel had no choice but to remain hidden from where she was, watching in silence.
"Lady Lane!"
Skylar did not worry about Yvette's disagreement. He smiled lightly. "I've said what I've needed to say, and I won't make things hard for you. I'm not asking for much. I just want you to help the New World Royals to get past the Hazel Hen Gate and the palace.
"You have the fiend soul in you, and that will be no difficult task for you. You can get the scroll from me the second you're done."
Skylar grinned broadly at Yvette, waiting for her to make a decision.
All at once, the temple was deathly silent.
