As he spoke, Skylar's gaze was ice-cold with fury.
He needed at least 20 children daily when he cultivated the Devil Nightmare. However, Rory only brought him 16 kids that day. So, he was furious.
Rory gulped when he sensed Skylar's rage. His temple beaded with sweat as he fell to his knees. He stammered as he spoke, "Please don't be angry, Your Honor. I've done my best to get you the children you need, I promise.
"But the missing children have caused great panic amongst the civilians. As a result, many families with children had run away. I could only find 16 kids today."
Rory continued to bow as he spoke; his tone was completely apologetic. "Don't worry, Your Honor. I'll figure out a way to get you another four."
Skylar's face darkened even further.
Rory had managed to screw up the simple task of getting 20 children daily, and he even let those families with children get away.
He was an idiot!
Rory did not dare get up from his kneeling position when he noticed the stone-cold look on Skylar's face. He did not even dare to breathe too hard.
The tension in the Prayer Tower was unbearably stiff.
"Tsk, tsk…"
Just then, a light peal of laughter rang from outside the tower. A melodious voice followed it. "How hard is it to find 20 children every day? You're such a useless head guard."
"Who's there?"
Rory's body jerked at the jeers. He whipped his head to look out of the palace. "How dare you break into a royal tower! You're dead!"
At the same time, Skylar stared intently at the tower entrance. Then, he saw a charming figure walk into the room.
She was a beautiful girl.
She was clad in a black and red dress that hugged her slim figure, and her features were dark and striking. She radiated a terrifying, fierce aura.
She was beautiful but devilish, like a charming snake.
