"It'd be such a waste to throw these away when they haven't gone bad, right?"
"Honestly, we've done a pretty good job as guards here for the past few thousand years. Eating a few spirit fruits about to go bad is not that big of an offense."
Then, the guard reached forward. He grabbed a spirit fruit and bit into it.
A satisfied expression came onto his face as he devoured the fruit. He could not help but exclaim, "Oh, this is wonderful."
The other guard finally gave in and took a spirit fruit. It was not long before they had polished off all the fruits in the basket.
Upon finishing their feast, the guards disposed of the basket and continued to guard the Jade Spiritual Realm entrance while talking and laughing.
"I heard that spirit fruits can make you stronger. Do you feel anything?"
"Not right now. Oh, what do we do with the pits?"
"Oh, I've got something in mind. Let's feed them to the Mighty Butes. I'm sure they'd enjoy them."
The two guards tossed the pits to the Mighty Butes. The beasts caught them instantly with their teeth, swallowing them into their bellies.
When the Mighty Butes devoured the pits, the guards exchanged a smile.
They were lucky that day. Thanks to a bumbling fruit orchard servant, they got a few spirit fruits for free.
Wait a moment—
Just as they were lost in delight, one of the guards frowned. It felt like something was off.
It was strange. He had been fine just a moment ago; why did he suddenly feel dizzy?
On top of that, something was suppressing the energy in his body.
"What's up with you?" the other guardian asked hurriedly.
"I don't know. I feel dizzy all of a sudden."
"How could that be? Was there something wrong with the fruits?"
The other guard jerked backward as well. He felt it as the energy from his body drained, and his head spun as he could barely stand.
Crap!
