As he spoke, Dax leaned forward to press his face against Goddad's.
"Aargh!"
The kid could hardly handle Dax's face full of stubble as he cried out in indignation. "Your beard's pricking me, Uncle Dax! Put me down, put me down!"
Haha!
Everyone burst out laughing.
Chester cast a glance at a still-unconscious Shannon, frowning slightly.
The next second, Chester asked Ambrose, "What's going on, Ambrose? Weren't you supposed to go and check on the situation with the pirates? How'd you end up with Shannon?"
As the words rang through the air, everyone's gaze fell onto Ambrose.
Ambrose took a deep breath, flashing a bitter smile. "The South Cloud Royals had just failed at trying to take down the palace when I got to the fishing village. Shannon had barely gotten out of it all alive as well…"
Ambrose spent the next few minutes describing everything that had happened in detail.
Toward the end, Ambrose said regretfully, "I thought that everything would be fine after we sent her back to the South Cloud Royal City. I never would have expected Zack to be so cunning, fooling everyone with his lies by saying that the Empress had died in the ocean and that the one we had brought with us was a fake from the Carters…"
Whew!
At the words, the crowd could hardly believe their shock and anger.
Dax, in particular, clenched his fists and said menacingly, "Motherf*cker, this bastard's got it in for him. I'll make him pay the next time I see him."
Everyone else around nodded in agreement.
"That's right, we've never gotten the short end of the stick without turning things around somehow in the end before!"
"We can't just let this be."
"Right…"
Chester simply smiled at the outrage. "Alright, let's talk about something else."
As he spoke, a thought seemed to come to Chester as he stared at Ambrose. "The South Cloud Royals are a strong force, and they're led by Shannon herself. How could a troop of hundreds of thousands of men not be able to take on even a gang of pirates?"
Chester was very much confused then.
