Cody droned on and on, not noticing how Veron's expression grew increasingly uncomfortable by the second.
Seeing as Cody was still trying to talk, Veron waved her hands frustratedly. "That's enough, that's enough… I got you to keep tabs on Heather to see if she had any unspeakable secrets. Why do you keep bringing up a child? So annoying…"
She had already been frustrated, to begin with. Seeing Cody return without any useful news only made her feel worse.
Uhh…
Cody's face flushed awkwardly upon having angered his High Lady, scratching his head as he scrambled to say, "You're perfectly right, High Lady. Well… Well, I'll go back to spying on her."
As Cody spoke, he was about to turn and leave.
Veron huffed indignantly as a thought came to her while she watched Cody about to leave the garden.
"Hold on! Come back."
As she shouted, Veron's gaze flashed with the implication of a daring guess.
At her call, Cody scrambled to turn and run back with an expression of respect on his face.
"Is there anything else you need, High Lady?"
His expression was respectful, but his chest thudded nervously.
Veron's ill-temper was no secret among the Lange family, and it had given Cody plenty of headaches.
At the thought of Veron possibly punishing him for not returning with any news, Cody grew anxious.
Veron frowned at the fearful look on his face. "Why do you look so scared? Do I scare you that much?"
Cody scrambled to shake his head. "No… No."
Veron let out a sigh before changing the subject. "You just said that Heather lady spends all day taking after the child and rarely leaves the Hidden Hero Sect. Nothing else?"
Cody nodded. "Yes."
Veron asked again, "Does Ambrose care a lot for that child as well?
"Yes…"
