Yun Shang's intuition was always accurate, and this time was no exception. Perhaps it was because the door and windows were closed tightly because of the rain, Yun Shang felt a little stuffy and didn't sleep well. She turned over and over again in the middle of the night. When she was about to fall asleep, she suddenly heard a sound coming from the air.
Although in sleep, she was still in a vigilant state. Hearing the sound, she quickly scooped up the quilt beside her and lifted it up.
The sound of something falling on the ground rang out. Almost at the same time, the light in the room was on, followed by the sound from the next room, "Assassins!"
Yun Shang lifted the bed curtain and got out of bed. Qian Zhuo was holding a sword, blocking in front of the bed. Yun Shang lowered her head and saw an arrow cut into two pieces on the ground of the room. She looked up and saw a hole in the paper pasted over the window.
Yun Shang immediately raised her voice and ordered, "Protect Lady Zhao. The assassins are on the top of the wall. Kill them all!"
The secret guards answered. Qin Yi came in in a hurry, took out a coat and draped it over Yun Shang's shoulder. Yun Shang hurried out of the door regardless of her disheveled hair.
It was still raining outside, so there was no way to light the torch. Through the lantern under the eaves, she could only vaguely see figures flashing on the wall. As soon as Yun Shang went out, the secret guards surrounded Yun Shang in a hurry. Seeing arrows kept heading in, Yun Shang walked quickly into the room next to her. Lady Zhao had also got up and was sitting on the couch which had been moved to the corner from beside the window by the secret guards. There was no need to worry that the arrows would shoot in.
Qin Yi fetched a chair for Yun Shang who then sat down next to Lady Zhao and said softly, "Not too many people. They are probably here to explore the way tonight. It's not a big deal."
Lady Zhao nodded. There was no fear in her eyes, but excitement. She raised her head and ordered the maid standing aside, "Go and pour me a cup of tea."
The maid answered. She couldn't get out as the fighting outside hadn't been over. Then she took the furnace to the side room, boiling water and making tea.
"Last time His Majesty hurried to here and didn't bring many guards with him. Qian Yin sent a message and said that His majesty has brought a lot of secret guards, and even dispatched more than half of the imperial guards and the palace guards. We only need to hold on for ten days. It will be fine after His Majesty arrives." Yun Shang rubbed her forehead and sighed.
Lady Zhao glanced at Yun Shang and said with a smile, "I just found that you've got both brains and courage. Outside, the fighting is going on, but you are still chatting with me here. It's really admirable."
Yun Shang smiled, without saying anything.
After a while, the maid done boiling the water and came to pour tea for Yun Shang and Lady Zhao. Yun Shang touched the edge of the teacup and put it aside as it was a little hot.
The sound outside gradually lowered. Even if they didn't go out, Yun Shang could roughly guess that the secret guards had almost done their task.
Sure enough, not long after, the door was opened, and Qian Yin and Wang Jinhuan came in together. Seeing the two seem to be at ease, Wang Jinhuan exclaimed, "You really know how to enjoy yourselves."
Then he took a teacup, poured himself a cup of tea, and downed the tea in a gulp. It seemed that his tongue got burned. He stick out his tongue and cool it with his waving hand.
Yun Shang couldn't help shaking her head and chuckling. She turned around and asked Qian Zhuo, "How is it going outside?"
"There are only twenty-nine people. I've checked them one by one, but didn't find anything."
Yun Shang nodded, "They must have been well prepared, so there couldn't be any trace left. It doesn't matter. We'll just wait. As they failed this time, they wouldn't give up easily. After all, Su Ruji and Su Qi are still on their way."
While they were talking, a scream came from outside. Yun Shang felt the voice sound like Lady Zhang, so she looked up and winked at Qian Zhuo, asking her to go out and see what was going on.
Qian Zhuo nodded and walked out quickly. After a while, she returned with Lady Zhang. Lady Zhang's face was pale, as if she was frightened by the situation outside. She stuttered at the sight of Yun Shang, "What...what happened...outside?"
Yun Shang smiled to comfort her softly, "Don't worry. Just someone is courting death." Why do you come here, Lady Zhang? Haven't you slept yet?"
Lady Zhang seemed to be still in a daze. She was silent for a moment before she realized what had happened. She said in a hurry, "I heard from a servant that he heard some usual sound come from here. I was worried about Your Highness, so I came here in a hurry."
Yun Shang's eyes fell on Lady Zhang. She was wearing a green coat and a jade hairpin in a bun.
"It's all right now. Don't worry, Lady Zhang. But I'm afraid the mansion will be in trouble these days. I'll tell Lord Zhang tomorrow to reinforce the night patrol, and I'll send more secret guards here. And you'd better not walk around at night, Lady Zhang. These assassins are coming for me. You will be fine if you stay in your room. " Yun Shang reminded kindly.
Lady Zhang was scared out of her wits by the corpses outside. Hearing Yun Shang's words, she nodded in a hurry and glanced at the middle-aged woman who had been sitting quietly beside Yun Shang.
A voice came from outside, followed by flustered footsteps. Qian Zhuo quickly poked her head out to have a look, and whispered, "Your Highness, it's Lord Zhang."
