Rebirth of the Phoenix Princess novel Chapter 918

Yun Shang was woken up by Qin Yi after two hours' sleep. Yun Shang slowly opened her eyes and was still in a daze when she heard Qin Yi saying smilingly, "Your Majesty, it's time to get up. His Majesty is waiting for your soup."

Hearing this, Yun Shang sat up. She sober up a little after Qin Yi help her fix her clothes and hair. "Earlier I met the directors of the Neishi Bureau and the Imperial Household Department and I told them that I wanted to change all the servants in Weiyang Palace. I got mad at them and scolded them. I'm afraid they will bring people here soon. You just stay in the palace in case they came. Choose some honest-looking ones from the servants they bring. It's all up to you and don't need to ask me."

Qin Yi was about to say something, but she suddenly remembered that Yun Shang had told her that there was someone watching them in Weiyang Palace, so she quickly replied, "Yes, I understand."

Yun Shang nodded and then ordered Hua'er to take the hamper and go to the Meeting Hall with her.

When they arrived at the Meeting Hall, they saw two eunuchs standing at the door. When they saw Yun Shang, the two eunuchs quickly bowed. Yun Shang looked in the Meeting Hall, but couldn't see anything clearly.

"I've brought some soup for His Majesty." Yun Shang whispered to the eunuch at the door.

Hearing this, the eunuch standing on the left was a little surprise. "Eh, just now the imperial kitchen had sent some soup, saying that it was ordered by His Former Majesty."

Yun Shang was stunned. She frowned and said nothing. Looking at Yun Shang's expression, the eunuch realized that he had said something wrong and hurriedly said, 'Til report it now."

Then he hurried into the hall. Not long after, the eunuch ran out again, with a bit of joy on his face. "Your Majesty, His Majesty wants to see you."

Yun Shang nodded, took the hamper from Hua'er, and asked Hua'er to wait at the gate before she stepped into the Meeting Hall.

In the Meeting Hall, only Luo Qingyan was dealing with political affairs. Liu Wenan and Wang Wanzhi were standing aside. Wang Wanzhi was wearing a long plain dress instead of the uniform for female officials, which made her look gentle and demure. With a notebook and writing brush in her hand, Wang Wanzhi seemed to hear footsteps. She raised her head, smiled at Yun Shang and bowed slightly.

There were several censers in the hall, smoking rising from the incense. The whole Meeting Hall was filled with the scent of ambergris. Luo Qingyan was reading a memorial, frowning with unpleasant look on his face, as if he was dealing with something tricky.

After marking on it with the writing brush, Luo Qingyan put it aside. Wang Wanzhi quickly took the memorial, had a look and write something in the notebook.

Luo Qingyan raised his head. A gentle smile appeared on his gloomy face. "Shang'er, you are here? Let me see what you have brought for me."

Hearing this, the smile on Yun Shang's face softened a little. She walked to the royal table and put down the hamper. When she removed the lid, the smell of food spread around. Noticing Luo Qingyan was looking at her, she smiled and said, "It's crucian carp soup with kudzu root. I specially ordered the kitchen to make the soup for Your Majesty, thinking you must be tired busy with political affairs these days. It's dry in the late autumn and the soup is effective for reducing internal heat."

Yun Shang said as she filled a bowl and put it in front of Luo Qingyan.

Luo Qingyan took the spoon from the hamper with a smile and looked up at Yun Shang. "Shang'er, thank you. Drink some with me." Then he looked at Liu Wenan and Wang Wanzhi. 'Til deal with the rest later after some rest. You can leave now."

Liu Wenan took a glance at Yun Shang and replied with a smile before left with Wang Wanzhi.

Yun Shang looked at Luo Qingyan with a smile, and then took another bowl for herself. Luo Qingyan looked around and moved himself a little before he patted the dragon chair he was sitting on and said with a smile, "Sit here."

Yun Shang was surprised, but smiled, "Your Majesty, don't make trouble for me. Not everyone can sit on this chair."

Luo Qingyan smiled, with a hint of loneliness in his eyes. "No matter where I sat before, there was a seat next to me for you. But when I looked around, I found there was no seat beside the dragon throne. The nearest chair is ten steps away from me. So it's reasonable for an emperor to call himself "Guaren" as he can't even get close to his beloved one. (*TN: Emperors often referred to themselves as Gua Ren, literally "this person, who is bereft of virtue", as well as "the only one").

Hearing this, Yun Shang smiled helplessly. "Your Majesty, what makes you so sentimental?" Although she was quipping, her heart ached uncontrollably. Seeing that the door had been closed by Liu Wenan, she walked to Luo Qingyan and sat down.
