He sat there trembling, staring at his computer screen as if it were alive. He started typing desperately, hoping to communicate with the hacker who had just obliterated his digital fortress. He wanted to beg—no, plead—for mercy.
But his attempts were futile. His skills, which he once thought impressive, were laughable in the face of the force he was up against.

His bedroom door burst open. His parents stormed in, their faces pale with fury. Calvin's father held up his phone, his hand trembling.
"What the hell have you been doing online?" his father bellowed. "Are you trying to ruin this family? You think it's funny to mess around with those sick photos?"
His mother was no calmer. "Your aunt just called—she's seen everything! Do you know what you've done? How are we supposed to face anyone now?"
Calvin tried to respond, but his throat felt like sandpaper. Words failed him.
