“You kidnapped James’ child?”
Both of them were baffled.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, Cynthia laughed. “Maxine, you’re joking, right? Why would you kidnap James’ child?”
Maxine cast a glance at Cynthia. As she looked over, Cynthia simply felt chills all over her body, like she was in an abyss.
Maxine’s stare was frightening. Cynthia had never seen her like this before. She backed up a little, taking a few steps.
Maxine said nonchalantly, “That’s right. I kidnapped James’ child. I did so much for him. I worked in the public eye and rose to become the head of the Cadens. I assisted him wholeheartedly. Regardless, he decided to live in seclusion with Thea.”
She spoke softly as if she were talking about a trivial matter, but her words were laced with resentment and displeasure.
After hearing that, they were both stunned. For a while, neither of them said anything.
The atmosphere in the room was a little unusual.
Then, the doorbell began to ring.
“I-I’ll go open the door.” Cynthia gathered herself and quickly walked toward the entrance. She opened the door and saw that it was James. She looked at James and called out to him, “James.”
James had rushed over here. As soon as he entered the house, he could not help but ask, “Has Maxine arrived?”
“S-She’s here,” said Cynthia.
She wanted to alert James that Maxine was being a little odd. However, James had already entered the house in a hurry after learning that Maxine had arrived.
When he was in the living room, he saw Maxine seated on the sofa. She was the same, just as gorgeous and charming as before. Nonetheless, the moment James saw Maxine, the anger in his heart swelled up.
However, he stifled it.
Winnie was currently not in Cansington. If he flew into a rage, Maxine would be angered. It would be a problem if she hurt the child.
He remained composed as he walked over and sat across Maxine.
“I’m here.”
