Salute to the General novel Chapter 2478

Lucas then gazed coldly at Thomas. “Didn't you say you want to prove yourself in the West? Fortune favors the bold. Now's your chance to join me on my mission to kill Isaiah. Will you take it, or will you walk away and live out the rest of your life in misery? The choice is yours!”

It was the first time Thomas was faced with such a difficult question because no matter how hard he tried, he could not seem to make up his mind.

On the one hand, Thomas wanted to blow the whistle on Lucas even if it meant that he would be discharged, for he disagreed with the man's approach.

On the other, he realized Lucas was only going to carry out a small-scale operation, unlike the all-out war from the night before. On top of that, Isaiah's death would be beneficial to the peace talks between the Chief Military Governor and the President of Volk. Why shouldn't I support General Ziegler? I can't turn my back on the West Army or General Ziegler again! Eventually, Thomas decided who he should side with.

“Okay. In order to prove that I'm not a rat, I'll join you on this mission to take out Isaiah, who had been nothing but a pest to Eurasia, even if it costs me my life,” voiced Thomas with gritted teeth.

In response, Lucas smiled contentedly as he patted the man on the shoulder. “That’s what I want to hear! Now that you're part of the West Army, we should be your top priority. Whatever you do, you do it for me. We’ve always been a valiant bunch, and we're definitely on par with those guys in the North Army. They made quite a splash by defeating the Xyperian army; now, it's our turn to show the world what we're capable of! Go get the men ready and tell them that we'll have a drink before heading out because tonight, we'll infiltrate

Volk and kill their God of War!”

That afternoon, Lucas secretly summoned one hundred of his most trusted soldiers, a group of elites, the Ten Tigers of the West, and the Fearless Eighteen. Around three hundred men gathered before Lucas, who glanced at all the capable soldiers around him before voicing, “Whoever wants no part of this, speak up now.”

Nobody at the scene wanted out. Instead, many of them urged Lucas to leave the dirty work to them.

Lucas had a contented smile on him once more when he heard the men. “I’m glad to see that you're all with me and that I was right about you. Every one of you deserves my respect! As much as I'm grateful that you worry about me getting my hands dirty, I have to go. Isaiah is Volk's God of War, so we would do well not to underestimate him. Even if you manage to infiltrate the place, you won't be able to kill him without me.”

Then, Lucas lifted his mug, “A toast to everyone present!”

“To the general!" responded Thomas and the others in unison with their mugs lifted as well.

After finishing their drink in one big gulp, Lucas and the others tossed their mugs on the ground before cackling heartily. “After tonight, we, the West Army, will shock the world! I’ll be damned if Volk ever dares to provoke us again!”

“All hail the general!” shouted Thomas and the others after listening to the rousing speech.

Meanwhile, at the Ares Squad headquarters, Isaiah was scrutinizing a map with a magnifying glass in his office.

A few high-ranking officers had lined up to report on their recent military affairs.

Isaiah seemed to be in deep thought as he listened to the reports while gazing at his map.

When he heard that the West Army recently had several emergency gatherings in the middle of the night, Isaiah furrowed his eyebrows with concern. “It's better to be safe than sorry. Who knows, Lucas might just be bold enough to attack us. Tell the men to cancel their holidays because I want all hands on deck.”

Yes, Sir!”
