When everyone got home, Erwin realized that his younger son, Hamish Holmes, had been waiting for them for quite some time.
Hence, he asked, “Hamish, did you thank Will?”
Hamish politely replied, “I've already thanked him on your behalf, Dad. He said to tell you that our families have been friends for so long, so it is only right that we help each other out. Additionally, he claimed that he wanted the families to become even closer.”
Erwin nodded approvingly. “You did good, Hamish.”
After that, he turned his attention to his elder son and scolded, “See that, Carrey? You should learn from your brother.”
Hearing those words prompted fury to burn within Carrey's heart, but he had no choice. He had to swallow his anger and reply, “Understood.”
Erwin checked the clock and noticed that it was already two in the morning.
He was getting older, so he couldn’t stand staying up all night anymore.
He yawned and said, “Okay, then. It's late, so you should both go to bed. I'll retire to my room now, too.”
Carrey and Hamish bowed simultaneously. “Good night, Dad.”
Erwin waved his hand dismissively, then left with a few bodyguards following closely behind.
Just like that, Carrey and Hamish became the only ones left in the living room.
Carrey didn't bother being nice to his younger brother after their father left. A scowl showed up on his face, and he harrumphed before turning around to leave.
However, Hamish called out, “Carrey, wait!”
Carrey stopped in his tracks. In a cold tone, he said, “As far as Dad is concerned, I will always be the troublesome son who makes mistakes all the time. You, on the other hand, will always be the obedient son. He even told me to learn from you. Bet you feel real good to hear that, huh? Why bother calling out to me then? You obviously don't give a sh*t about me.”
Hamish grinned bitterly and replied, “You misread the situation, Carrey.
