He pondered the matter briefly and said, “That sounds like a good plan. Don't forget that Nathan is the Chief Military Governor. He has an army under his command. If he ignores everyone else and the public opinion, or if he uses his army to force everyone into submission, what are you going to do?”
Use his army to force everyone into submission?
That had escaped Carrey and Hamish's notice.
Both stiffened at once, and cold sweat dotted their foreheads. Hamish paled and asked, “Dad, Nathan won't resort to that, right?”
Erwin snorted. “Even if you're a step faster than him, you might not be the first to reach the finishing line. But if you take the wrong step, you'll end up as the loser. Did you forget how we defeated Zion? It was because a small problem could turn out to be a catastrophe if it was left unattended!” he reminded them.
Carrey and Hamish paled immediately.
Nathan could mobilize the army. He could ignore the public opinion and
his reputation to resort to violent means to force everyone into submission. If that were to happen, Carrey and Hamish wouldn't know what to do.
Erwin snapped, “You're both too young and inexperienced. You have plenty to learn.”
Carrey and Hamish brightened up at once. Hamish asked hastily, “Dad, do you have a plan in mind?”
“I've come prepared,” Erwin replied coolly. “Tell Will that I'll treat him to dinner tonight. Make sure he comes over.”
Will? Will Long? The commander-in-chief of the Brimmopolis Capital Garrison?
Hearing that, Carrey and Hamish beamed in delight.
They finally understood what their father's plan was.
Nathan might be the Chief Military Governor who was in charge of the soldiers in the military district, but they were currently in Brimmopolis.
Will was in charge of two hundred thousand men in the Brimmopolis Capital Garrison.
If Will sided with the Holmes family, his men could lock down the city swiftly and enter the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor to detain Nathan if something were to happen.
By the time the soldiers from the North, the South, the East, and the West rushed over to Brimmopolis, Nathan would have been dead.
