Szymon piped up menacingly, “What do you mean?”
Nathan replied placidly, “It's rather simple. Not to mention, I told Quintin previously that other than returning the imperial jade seal to me, you should compensate me for causing me to waste my precious time. Since I lost one whole day because of you, you should pay me five billion and six hundred million.”
Szymon bellowed, “Nathan Cross, you'd better not go overboard! Who do you think you are to request compensation of five billion and six hundred million for just one day?”
Nathan snapped coldly, “Since I'm the President of Eurasia, I don't think I need to waste time explaining to you how precious my time is.”
Szymon gritted his teeth. “Good gracious! How could you request five billion and six hundred million for only one day? Don't you think that's daylight robbery? Have you ever thought you might not live long enough to spend it?”
“Even though I'm the President of Eurasia, I'm still a government servant. I'm not requesting the compensation of five billion and six hundred million solely for myself but for billions of people in Eurasia. Not to mention, you hurt their feelings and caused their president to waste his precious time. Thus, this sum is mainly to compensate the whole of Eurasia and will be kept in the national treasury. As for how you threatened me just now, I hope you can take your words back. Otherwise, not only me but the whole of Eurasia will treat it as a provocation. You'll have to pay the price for your impudence,” Nathan responded matter-of-factly.
In an instant, everyone's face fell. Only then did they realize they should not have underestimated a president's prominence, even one from a foreign country. Their Duke Szymon was seemingly no match for Nathan. If Nathan Cross blows a fuse, an intense battle will surely unfold, turning our country into a living hell!
There was an instant change in Piero's countenance. After serving Szymon faithfully throughout the years, there was a bond of brotherhood between them.
In Piero's eyes, Szymon was just like his family member. At the moment, he was worried stiff that the latter would stir up turmoil, resulting in a battle between the two countries.
Piero was fully aware that Szymon was a man of pride. Now that the latter's temper had flared, Piero had a hunch that he would never apologize due to being blinded by his boiling rage.
Hence, he apologized in haste instead, “Yes, yes! Mr. Cross, you have a point. Please don't take His Grace's words to heart. He realizes that he had a slip of the tongue and wishes to take back his words. As for the compensation you demanded, we'll pay it off within two days.”
Hearing that, Nathan turned to look at Szymon. “Is that so?”
Wearing a look of sheer apprehension, Piero and the others surrounded Szymon, urging him, “Your Grace, please nod and say yes now.”
Szymon had no choice but to reply reluctantly, “Yes!”
Seeing that Szymon had to swallow his pride and agree to pay the compensation, Nathan decided to go easy on him. Most importantly, he had retrieved the imperial jade seal. After bidding them farewell, he was about to leave with Penny, Carlos, and the others.
