Salute to the General novel Chapter 2934

After Nathan took a seat, Giancarlo made a toast to Nathan.

The other business representatives, worker representatives, and elders who lived there also toasted to Nathan.

Nathan did not deny a drink to any of them, and the crowd cheered.

A middle-aged woman with patched but clean clothes entered with a plate of salted peanuts and placed it on the table in front of Nathan.

She said shyly, “President Cross, I don't have anything else that's good. I've just made these snacks, so please try them out.”

Nathan nodded. “Thank you, Ma'am!”

The middle-aged woman had been afraid that Nathan would scoff at her food, but to her surprise, not only did he not do that, but he even thanked her sincerely. She could not help but feel delighted.

When Nathan saw the plain clothes the middle-aged woman was wearing and the haggard expression on her face, he could not help but ask, “Ma'am, what's your name? Where do you work at? How's life?”

The middle-aged woman answered, “I'm Shoshana Littleton, and I'm fifty this year. I do cleaning and cooking for the people here. I earn about three to four thousand in Eurasian currency, and I've sent it all back to my hometown. It's fine if I live a tougher life.”

Nathan was focused on her words until she was done. Then, he turned and asked Giancarlo, “Do the Eurasians who worked here earn similar pay as Mdm. Littleton?”

Giancarlo nodded. “Yes. The wage hasn't risen for decades, so it's still the same as the wage a few decades before.”

Hearing that, Nathan said solemnly to the crowd, “You must have left your country to work here dozens of years and even decades ago. Perhaps our country used to pay little decades ago, and that's why you've chosen to work here to provide for your family. However, I'd like to tell you something. Our country has changed. The salary offered back in our country is no lesser than the salary offered here. You don't need to leave your home and be worried about getting bullied as an outsider anymore.”

Giancarlo smiled and said, “Yes, yes. Even though I haven't been back, I've heard the older members of my family talk about this before. They say that Eurasia's no longer as poor as we used to be decades ago, and life is much better now.”

Nathan nodded before turning back to the crowd. “I've heard about how you've been bullied recently, and I've come here to deal with this. I've met with Jaymes, and I've requested him to ensure the safety of Eurasians who live here. He has agreed to it. Still, I'm worried that he might go back on his words.”

As the things Nathan was saying involved the benefits and safety of the people there, everyone perked up their ears to listen to his speech.
