After the banquet ended, Fang and the others returned to the North, while Nathan headed to Channing.
By ten o'clock that night, he arrived at the doorsteps of his dwelling in Channing.
He noticed that the living room lights were on and sounds of conversation could be heard. It seemed that there were guests.
He unlocked the door and entered the house.
Penny, Queenie, Kylie, Benson, Leah, and Ava all had looks of surprise on their faces.
Queenie rushed toward him, shouting, “Daddy!”
Nathan hummed in response before gladly lifting her in his arms.
Penny walked up to him, all smiles, a soft look in her eyes. “We got a call from Admiral Hill this morning to inform us of your safe return today. We assumed that you would arrive by tomorrow due to the banquet, but you came back tonight,” she said with joy.
“Work in the military is settled, so I hurried back,” he answered happily.
“We have a guest tonight,” Penny whispered.
It wasn't until then that Nathan noticed that there was a guest in the living room.
It was none other than Kerry, who had recently joined the Secret Service.
She looked smart and formal in a black suit, no longer the lackadaisical woman Nathan had met.
After briskly walking up to Nathan, she greeted him politely, “Good evening, Mr. Cross.”
“Fancy seeing you, Kerry. How's work at the Secret Service?” inquired Nathan with a smile.
“My superiors are all very caring, so I'm doing quite fine in my job,” Kerry replied.
By then, she hesitated for a moment before muttering, “The purpose of my visit upon knowing that you'll be enjoying your holidays at Channing is to inquire about the whereabouts of Master.”
“Have a seat.” Nathan pointed at the sofa.
