Within the mysterious grand hall of the vampire headquarters was a massive hexagram where a heavy black coffin lay on top of it.
When the lid was open, one could see a frail Adrunian man dressed in a classical suit lying inside it.
It was none other than the Patriarch, Herod.
On the racks that surrounded the hall were rows and rows of white candles, where countless flickering flames added to the eeriness of the atmosphere.
In all four directions of the coffin, except to the east, knelt a girl that was tightly bound.
Out of the different spirit colors of the Four Human Spirits, only the yellow one was missing.
Lux, Max, and the rest of the thirteen vampire princes were standing at attention with grim looks on their faces.
Behind them were countless subordinates in black suits and dresses. They were all the elites belonging to various vampire families.
In fact, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that most of the nobles and elites of vampiric society were gathered there.
Previously, Herod's plan was to have his descendants awaken him, but the murder of Vivien changed the calculus of his plan.
Given the drastic development, the vampires decided to awaken him to deal with the dire situation.
At that moment, Lyanna lead the ceremony for the awakening.
As she scanned her eyes across the hall, she asked in a gradual tone, “The best way to awaken the Patriarch is to sacrifice the blood and lives of the Four Human Spirits. However, due to Vivien's death, we have failed to capture the one who possesses the spirit in yellow color. This poses a risk to the awakening ceremony. Unfortunately, desperate circumstances require desperate measures. So, do all of you agree to awaken the Patriarch?”
Lux was the first person to respond, “I do!”
Max was next. “I agree!”
One by one, the rest of the thirteen princes voiced their support, officially kicking off the awakening ceremony.
With her chin raised and hands outstretched, Lyanna chanted, “Your soul rests in the black coffin underneath the silvery moonlight. Despite your deep slumber, I can sense the yearning in your heart for the vampire race and the concern for your descendants. A storm has come, plunging the vampires into an unprecedented crisis. I hereby awaken you with the most precious of human blood so that you can guide us on the path forward.”
No sooner had she spoken than three vampires stepped forward to kill the three humans.
The instant their lives were taken, blood began to flood the ground.
