“Congratulations on your return, Eurasia's God of War!”
At that moment, the royal carriage and its entourage had come to a stop.
The moment Nathan stepped out in his black military boots, the War Gods present erupted in triumphant cheers.
Smiling slightly, Nathan acknowledged them with a gentle nod.
Meanwhile, Eugene IV, followed by other leaders of the Curia, came forward to receive him.
With his hands outstretched, he greeted Nathan in an ecstatic tone, “Haha, Mr. Cross, you have returned to us a hero!”
After giving Eugene IV a cordial hug, Nathan replied with a smile, “I'm flattered, Pope Eugene.”
Eugene IV spoke in a loud voice on purpose. “You deserve every bit of the honor. Everyone knows how difficult it was to infiltrate the werewolves' territory and kill Raytor. By returning in triumph after accomplishing such a feat, you have proven your strength to all. Now that you have won your bet against Mr. Welz, he should hand you the position of commander-in-chief.”
Eugene IV's words sent a shockwave through the crowd.
No one expected him to bring up the bet as the first order of business.
What came as a greater shock was his brazen declaration of support for Nathan to depose Wolfric as the commander-in-chief.
Nevertheless, no one could blame him for his decision.
After Max's attack on Hepburn, Ariarica disregarded the Curia's protests and chose to ignore the matter. Relations between Ariarica and the Curia soured ever since.
Furthermore, when Eugene IV was nominated for the position of commander-in-chief, Wolfric was the first to object, putting a stop to the former's ambitions.
Consequently, Eugene IV was now returning the favor.
Didn't you prevent me from becoming commander-in-chief? I'm going to take you down as revenge.
Other than venting his dissatisfaction with Wolfric, Eugene IV had another reason for doing so.
