Confronted with Nathan's accusations, Hepburn appeared troubled, showing a desire to respond but ultimately choosing to remain silent.
She wanted to explain to Nathan, but how could she do it in front of all the vampires? I can't just reveal that I decided to become the vampire queen and guide them toward new paths, all to offer an escape for Nathan, can I?
If she were to explain it like that in front of the vampires, it would be likely that they would not accept it, and chaos would ensue on the spot. I'd rather not say anything.
However, her silence only deepened Nathan's misunderstandings of her.
For a moment, she found herself in a dilemma.
Nathan's frown deepened upon witnessing the intricate emotion etched across Hepburn's countenance. It seemed she was torn between speaking her mind and choosing restraint. In a disinterested tone, he inquired, “Do you not want to explain, or do you feel it's unnecessary to explain to me?”
Hepburn still had not spoken anything.
Emerging from the throng of formidable vampires at her rear, a familiar figure advanced, proclaiming loudly, “Queen Hepburn is under no obligation to offer you an explanation.”
Nathan's gaze fell on the vampire who had bravely stepped forward, only to discover that it was Max.
Max's voice carried a chilly edge as he continued, “Nathan, while you might not harbor a desire to become the vampire king, you lack the authority to thwart others' ambitions for that throne. You reject your lineage and resist leading the vampires toward a resolution, yet you cannot impede Ms. Hepburn from guiding the vampires toward a fresh trajectory. You, yourself, transformed Ms. Hepburn into a vampire, and now you deny her the right to exist as one. Who do you think you are? Her master? Do you aspire to exert absolute control over everything?”
The vampires present at the scene were all coldly staring at Nathan.
It was apparent that their attitude aligned with Max's.
Upon absorbing Max's words, Nathan could not help but experience a fleeting pang of guilt, his eyes betraying a hint of remorse as he recalled his role in Hepburn's transformation into a vampire.
Nevertheless, his gaze swiftly regained its resolute composure.
Instead of paying attention to Max, he calmly looked at Hepburn and asked lightly, “Do you share the same sentiments as what he just said?”
