Chapter 374
Hogan looked at Lizetta’s pale and fragile figure, his heart aching with regret and sorrow. He blamed himself for not being there sooner, for not protecting her from this humiliation and distress. She must have been terrified.
“It’s okay, having you here is already a great comfort,” at least, it made her feel less alone.
“It’s you! Well, Lizetta, the baby you’re carrying, couldn’t possibly be his, could it?” Brows knitted, Hanna eyed Hogan, who was helping Lizetta to her feet, with suspicion clearly written across her face.
Lizetta clenched her fists, her gaze fierce as she stared at Hanna; she retorted coldly, “Yes, the baby I’m carrying has nothing to do with Remington. You can drop your hopes!”
Her Joy was hers alone. Given Hanna’s attitude towards her, Lizetta was determined not to make things easy for her.
What Hanna cared about most was whether Lizetta’s baby could save Joseph, so Lizetta took delight in provoking her. To death with her!
“What did you just say? Repeat that!” Demanded a familiar, deep male voice suddenly from the doorway. Lizetta froze, slowly turning her head to see Remington, who had seemingly arrived in a hurry, his chest still heaving slightly, an imposing aura surrounding him.
The tension in the operating room spiked, silence enveloping everyone like a cold front.
As Lizetta locked eyes with Remington, her heart felt as if it were being squeezed by an invisible hand.
She hadn’t expected Remington to overhear such words. His reaction, that look in his eyes; was almost laughable.
Did Hanna’s disbelief extend to him as well? Did he also doubt that Joy was his flesh and blood? Or, was Hanna’s behavior actually condoned by him?
Lizetta lacked the strength to discern the truth. Since he had heard, then let it be. She defiantly lifted the corners of her mouth and said to Remington, “Fine, I’ll say it again. Remington, this child is not yours. Are! you happy now?!”
Remington’s forehead veins bulged visibly, his sharp gaze becoming even more’piercing.
“Remington! You heard her, didn’t you?! She admitted it herself! She’s so shameless, unbelievable,” Hanna finally caught on from the bombshell, her voice sharp with utter indignation,
But before she could finish, Remington sternly cut her off, “Enough!”
His command, along with his predatory glare, made Hanna’s skin crawl, her voice abruptly stopping. Remington stepped forward, moving closer to Lizetta, who, unsure of his intentions, immediately leaned on Hogan for support, saying, “Hogan, help me leave. I want to get out of here.”
She barely had any strength left. Hogan nodded, quickly supporting Lizetta by the arm and shoulder. Seeing Lizetta so averse to him yet fully relying on Hogan, a surge of anger roiled in Remington’s eyes. He blocked their way out, forcing Lizetta to’face him.
