The words from Sydney were anything but polite, which filled Clay with intense fury.
However, Sydney continued to add fuel to the fire. "As for what you just said about the relationship between the McDaniel family and the Flint family, and how I need to curry favor with your family in order to be with Julien, it's even more ridiculous. Even though we don't hold any grudges now, it appears that your daughter is scheming to sabotage my relationship with Julien. You clearly know the reasons behind it, right? Your daughter has developed feelings for Julien and wishes to replace me if given the chance."
Clay looked quite embarrassed and turned to the side.
He didn't expect Sydney to know all this.
Sydney continued with a sneer, "Furthermore, even if I were to flatter you, forgive you without holding any grudges, and speak highly of you to Julien, it wouldn't prevent you from obstructing our relationship. Your father, who happens to be Julien's teacher, spoke negatively about me to Julien even before he knew about his granddaughter's actions online. He claimed that I am not deserving of Julien and attempted to break us apart. It is evident that, regardless of my efforts, the McDaniel family does not wish to see me with Julien, because it would mean your daughter losing her chance. Considering this, your earlier words were nothing more than insincere and laughable."
With all his schemes exposed, Clay stood there in complete embarrassment and stiffness, unable to utter a single word.
Even his assistant behind him wanted to find a hole to hide in.
This was truly humiliating.
Sydney appeared oblivious to Clay's embarrassment as she gently placed her teacup down and smiled, "Even if Mr. McDaniel takes no action and your family no longer insists on your daughter marrying Julien, I have no need to flatter you."
"What do you mean?" Clay's gaze pierced Sydney fiercely.
Sydney flicked her hair casually and said, "The reason is quite simple. We have no blood ties or friendship, so why should I try to win your family's favor? Even if I flatter you, none of you will help to secure my relationship with Julien. Plus, my relationship with Julien is our own personal affair, and we don't need someone else to stabilize it. Let me tell you something that you may not be willing to accept. In terms of importance to Julien, I probably hold a higher position than the McDaniel family. Despite Mr. McDaniel being Julien's teacher, this fact cannot be changed. As soon as your family provokes me, Julien will distance himself from all of you."
Clay immediately jumped up, as if a cat whose tail had been stepped on. He pointed at Sydney and shouted, "Regardless of how important you may be to Julien, it does not necessarily make you more important than the McDaniel family. Julien might be temporarily upset with us for our wrongdoing, but he will not distance himself from our family. Absolutely not!"
Sydney was amused by his stubbornness. She maintained a calm smile on her face and said, "Since he won't, then why did you come to apologize to me today? Isn't it to make me forgive your family and speak well of you to Julien, so that Julien won't be angry with your family anymore? Unfortunately, your family has miscalculated from the beginning. You didn't even show sincerity in your apology, yet you hoped I would forgive you and speak on your behalf. It's simply wishful thinking."
"You..." Clay's fingers trembled, and he was unable to form a complete sentence due to anger.
Sydney shrugged and said, "Mr. McDaniel, if you refuse to accept reality, then there was no need for you to come to me. You should have continued to uphold the dignity of your family and waited to see if Julien would pay attention to you. But since you're here, it suggests that some members of your family already understand the truth. However, mere knowledge is not enough. If you cannot act appropriately, it is all in vain. Let me emphasize this one last time: I will not forgive your family unless you demonstrate sincerity. Otherwise, there is nothing more to discuss. And please do not mistakenly believe that your relationship with the Flint family entitles you to my favor. If anyone should be seeking favor, it should be your family trying to win mine."
"What nonsense is this? Our family should curry favor with you?" Clay burst out laughing, finding Sydney's expression extremely funny.
