Sydney held the swaddle up to take a better look.
The outer layer of the swaddle wasn't just a plain, silky surface.
There were a number of patterns embroidered on it.
The stitches were exquisite, and it made the patterns look like they were real. Such handiwork wasn't something that could be completed with a machine.
It was obvious that this was entirely handmade.
Given the delicate embroidery and the fine silk, Sydney realized that this swaddle certainly cost a lot.
Even the baby's clothes looked of high quality. Despite turning yellow by age, the baby's outfit in her hands felt soft and smooth. She could tell that it was an expensive piece of clothing.
"Why did my dad keep all of these in the safe?" Sydney's face was written with confusion as she put down the swaddle.
Julien took a look at the swaddle. His eyes lit up for a brief moment when he saw the patterns on it. "I'm guessing you wore this when you were a child. You probably wore it when you first met the Raines family. And that was why your dad kept it safe for you. It's a meaningful item, after all.”
"How would you know that I was wearing this when I first entered the Raines family?" Sydney gave Julien a puzzled look as she held onto the swaddle.
He responded with his gaze lowered. "It was just a guess. If Henry had bought it for you after you got into the Raines family, he wouldn't have had to keep it for you since you had tons of clothes by then. However, if this was what you were wearing before you arrived at the Raines residence, then perhaps he held onto it as a keepsake. When someone sees this in the future, they might recall how you looked when you first came to the Raines family."
"I guess that does sound possible." Sydney nodded thoughtfully.
Julien pressed his lips together without making any further comments.
In fact, it was not his guess at all.
He said that she had worn the swaddle and the baby's clothes when she first met the Raines family because he noticed the embroidery on the swaddle.
Mrs. Madden's mother was once famous for her embroidery skills. And she had even been one of the elders in the embroidery organization in the past.
There were tons of people who loved her works.
However, for some reason, she made an official announcement about 30 years ago to tell everyone that she would stop embroidering. The public was very sorry to learn about it.
Yet, four years after that announcement, the old lady went against her own words and started embroidering again. She picked the needle up on the day that Mrs. Madden found out she was pregnant.
The old lady did an interview where she highlighted that she wasn't embroidering for anyone else, but she only wanted to make a swaddle for the future grandchild.
That unborn grandchild turned out to be Sydney.
Henry stole Sydney from the Madden family a short while after Sydney was born, so it was likely that Sydney was wrapped in that very swaddle.
However, Julien was shocked to see that Henry had kept the swaddle for so long. Sydney had no idea what was in Julien's mind, so she simply folded the swaddle while speaking. "If your guess was right, and I was wearing this swaddle before entering the Raines family, it seems like my biological family was not that simple. They seem to be rich."
Julien muttered, "They are rich indeed."
Sydney looked up to stare at him. "Why does it sound as if you know who my biological parents are?"
His eyes glinted for a moment before he let out a laugh. "How could that be possible? I just said so because of this."
He pointed at the swaddle in her hands.
Sydney didn't actually suspect that Julien knew something about her family, so she simply placed the swaddle back into the suitcase as she spoke. "Well, it doesn't matter if they're rich. I'm just a daughter from the Raines family. And I'll always be."
"Are you planning to keep this swaddle?" Julien asked as he looked at her.
She shut the suitcase. "Of course. Since my father put it in here, I'm sure he wanted it as a keepsake. If that's the case, I have to keep it safe with me. I'll keep this at home from now on."
"Yeah. Don't bring it out. Don't let others see it." Julien narrowed his eyes as he gave her a reminder.
