"No. I'll stay here with you." Julien said as he went to the couch and took a seat.
Sydney didn't chase him out. She went back to her desk. "Sure. As long as you're not bored out of your mind."
"Do I look like the kind of guy who can't sit still?" Julien chuckled as he poured a cup of tea for himself.
Sydney smiled at him, but she said nothing. Then, she took out her phone and made a call.
When Julien saw her putting her phone against her ear, he rubbed the side of the cup. "Who are you calling?"
Since the call hadn't been answered, Sydney took a second to answer him, "Luke."
Julien frowned. "Luke?"
"Yes."
"Why are you calling him?" He sounded jealous.
He knew Luke had given up on Sydney, but he knew Luke still had feelings for her.
Thus, Julien disliked Luke.
Sydney knew why Julien had a long face. Then she shook her head helplessly. "I want to thank him. He's the first one who tried to clear my name right after Madeline defamed me on the internet. And, I'll thank Hunter later. Stop getting jealous."
Julien grunted and stayed quiet.
For the sake of them helping her, he would let this one slide.
Although he thought so in his heart, he still stared at Sydney. He listened closely in case they had said something they shouldn't.
Sydney felt his gaze, and she knew why he was looking. She shook her head in amusement.
From the other side of the phone, Luke heard her laughter. Then he was confused. "Why are you laughing, Sydney?"
Julien thought, 'Did we say something funny?'
Sydney waved her hand. "It's nothing. I was just amused because I saw a childish guy."
"A childish guy?" Luke was even more confused now. "Who is it?"
"Doesn't matter." Sydney wasn't about to tell him it was Julien.
Since she wasn't spilling, Luke shrugged and stopped asking.
Sitting on a couch, Julien realized that Sydney was calling him childish. Then he arched an eyebrow.
Julien thought, 'Does she think I'm a childish guy?'
Sydney made some small talk. When she was about to hang up and call Hunter, Luke remembered something. Then he said in a serious tone, "Oh, right. Syd."
Sydney put her phone back against her ear and looked serious as well. "What is it, Luke?"
"Someone from the hospital in South Lake called me. It's the hospital where your parents' daughter was born."
"Yes, and?" Sydney nodded.
Luke squinted. "The guy told me that Brandon sent someone to inquire about your mother's birth daughter twenty-six years ago."
"What?" Sydney's face darkened. "Why would Brandon want to find out about that?"
When Julien overheard that, he stopped sipping his tea and went over to her. "What happened?"
Sydney shook her head quietly and waited for Luke to answer her.
Luke shook his head as well. "No idea. The guy said Brandon's man only asked about basic info about your mother's child and then left, so I don't know what he's up to."
