“...” Sydney had no idea what to say. After a long pause, she said uncertainly, “I thought it was luck.”
“Yes, it was. But your constitution made it an easier thing,” Finn answered, sliding the pen into its top.
Sydney looked down and touched her belly. She couldn’t believe that it was easy for her to have a baby. She had only heard of this before.
Finn noticed Sydney lowered her head and looked sullen. Leaning back in his chair, he asked, “Why? You don’t look happy with your constitution. You know, many women are dreaming of it.”
“Ha.” Sydney pulled the corners of her mouth to force a smile. “How can I be happy? I can’t even accept it.”
‘Fertile? Easy to have a baby? It makes me no different from a sow. I don’t find myself a single reason to feel blessed.’
“Come on, you can make it. You love Old Madam, don’t you? Think about it. You’re very likely to give her a great-grandson before her death. Or would you rather see the Old Madam leave the world with regrets?” Finn persuaded, pushing his glasses up.
Sydney pressed her lips together and said nothing.
He really hit the nail on the head. She couldn’t do that to the Old Madam.
This meant she had to bear a baby with Julien within three years.
Her brows furrowed, and she spoke, “Forget it. Let’s quit the talk. I’ll face it when I have to. Now prescribe me medicine.”
“I’ve had it done.” Finn tapped his long fingers on the prescription that was just written out.
Sydney looked down at it, only to find that the scrawly handwriting did not make any sense to her.
She grabbed that piece of paper, got herself up and said, “I’m gonna get my medicine at the pharmacy.”
“OK,” Finn nodded slightly. “Go ahead. But you gotta know that your body is not ready for pregnancy. You must have protected sex with Julien, or you know what may happen—another baby on the way.”
Sydney blushed with embarrassment, “Julien and I haven’t gone that far. You’re talking about it too early.”
“It’s only a matter of time between adults.” Finn smiled meaningfully.
Sydney took a deep breath and replied, “Whatever. I gotta go.”
She opened the door and walked over to the pharmacy.
After she got the medicine, she was about to leave the hospital. Just then, she ran into another acquaintance.
Watching the woman walking over to her, Sydney furrowed her brows, thinking to herself, ‘what a shitty day! When I came, here came Mrs. Madden, and when I was leaving, here came Ms. Madden. Am I doomed to meet the Maddens?’
“Ms. Raines.” Clarice ambled charmingly over to Sydney, carrying a small precious purse.
Sydney couldn’t resist frowning and feeling unreasonably angry at the sight of Clarice, who was dressed expensively and delicately.
Clarice must be here because her father, Brandon, ended up in hospital again.
Brandon wasn’t in good health. It is a common occurrence for him to go to hospital. This made Sydney unsurprised to see Mrs. Madden here before.
Her father was in hospital, while Clarice was dressing as if she was going to be in a beauty contest. Sydney couldn’t help but feel so sorry for Brandon being treated this way.
“Ms. Madden,” Sydney said coldly, nodding slightly.
