Gloria was willing to attend a new classmate's birthday party because she felt her name, Jennie Gibson, sounded somehow familiar...
... As if she had heard it before somewhere. But the 12-year-old girl could not recall exactly where she had seen her before. She just found a sense of intimacy with the girl.
The moment she arrived home, she even told her mother, "Mom, a classmate invited me to her birthday party. Mommy, I want to take the effort to prepare a present for her."
Goldie was delighted when she heard this too. She did not have much time left. She could only survive until her daughter was 12 because of a concoction of medicine that cost her more than 10,000 dollars every month, maintaining her steady heartbeat. She counted her days as they passed. She hoped she could live to see her daughter graduate from high school.
Six more years! No matter what, she had to survive for six more years!
Goldie was delighted that her daughter now knew how to make friends and have fun with them. At least, when she was no longer on this earth, her daughter would not be lonely now that she was left alone.
The moment her daughter mentioned the party to her,
Goldie started to prepare the present for her daughter's friend, and she even bought a beautiful little cocktail dress for her daughter. She did not want her to look shabby in front of her friends.
After all, Goldie was a cultured woman who had spent years living abroad, the dress she bought her daughter was elegant, and yet, cute and lively at the same time. The present she prepared for her daughter's friend was also unique and special.
It was one of her own paintings -- a painting of an apple tree. She even drew a few spotted deer bounding across the snowy grounds. Under her brush, they looked almost lifelike and extremely cute.
Her wishes to the little girl were painted on the upperright-hand corner of the painting: 'May the birthday girl remain forever healthy and beautiful.’
The twelve-year-old Gloria loved the present her mother prepared for her friend and was delighted with the dress her mother chose for her.
Her mother hailed a taxi for her. She hopped on and was near her friend's house when she saw her friend waiting for her at the intersection.
