Gloria was completely helpless now. At her wits' end, she really wanted to leave all her worldly troubles behind her but, before she died, she had to clear her debt, especially since her debtor was someone who was as honest and upright as he was poor.
"Lincoln Lynn, no matter what, we were husband and wife. Give me three thousand dollars. I need to return two thousand dollars to Mr. Scott. The remaining thousand, just think of it as compensation for all the years I spent with you." 1
Lincoln sneered, "What a perfect plan you have there! It’s not that I can’t afford three thousand dollars, but if you are lying to me..."
"I am in this situation now, so why would I lie to you?" Gloria laughed pitifully.
"I'll go with you! If you're not lying to me, then I will give you the three thousand dollars you asked for!" Lincoln said viciously.
He was willing to go to a remote little village thousands of miles away with her, not because he was worried that Gloria would lie to him, but because an idea suddenly popped into his mind. If Gloria and her daughter stayed in that remote mountain village, or if she remarried a villager, then he would not have to worry about her again for the rest of his life!
After making his decision, Lincoln left immediately and brought Gloria and their daughter to the Lame Scott’s hometown, which had also become Sabrina's hometown.
When they reached Lame Scott's house, Lame Scott was surprised to see them. He never expected she would really be here to return his money to him.
Lame Scott told Gloria the truth, "Since I was a child, I’ve had a lame leg. I’m also infertile, and that’s why no woman has been willing to marry me. If you don't find me disgusting, then let's keep each other company. Even though we're poor, as long as I have a bite to eat, you and your daughter will not starve either.”
Hearing Lame Scott's words, Gloria's tears poured down her cheeks in an instant.
She placed her daughter, who was soundly asleep, on the ground, and threw her arms around Lame Scott and called out on the spot, "Dear, from this moment onward, you're my husband. I'll stay here for the rest o f my life. I won't go anywhere. This is my fate."
