This time, his mother was waiting for him there and picked up the moment he called.
Hearing Noah's news, his mother was delighted too. She said in a very open-minded fashion, "What do you mean maintaining the family bloodlines? Any child that is born to you is yours. Even if the child does not take the Hill family name, in the future he would still have to address me as his grandmother, am I right?"
Noah laughed. "Mother, I am glad that you're so open-minded. Once we get married, I'll bring you here to live with us. Then you’ll be a true city woman.”
On the other end, his mother laughed so hard she could hardly close her mouth. "Good, good. Finally, my days of suffering are over. I can start to enjoy life now."
Just like that, a week after the discussion between mother and son, Noah gave his boss his answer. He agreed to the marriage.
He did not feel as if he had won the lottery, now that h e would not have to struggle as hard as his peers. He maintained his calm and humble attitude as he told his boss, "Since I joined this family, I will take on the responsibility as the man of the house. I will be a good father to my two-year-old son, I will manage the company well. I don’t know much about management, but I'm willing to learn. I will work hard to learn how t o become the pillar that supports this family.” 1
That was his promise to his father-in-law. Since then, even after he married the boss's daughter, that was indeed what he did. He raised the boy whom his wife gave birth to with another man as his own. He also took good care of his handicapped wife. Not only that, he was very attentive toward and took good care of his in-laws. Because of him, his in-laws' lives were significantly easier.
In terms of managing the factory, Noah performed well too, doing a good job in expanding the business within three short months. Even six months after registering their marriage, his wife's family never mentioned holding a wedding ceremony.
Once, when his wife was in a very good mood, she poked at him with her unharmed leg and said, "Noah, did you know why my parents never mentioned holding a wedding ceremony for us even though we already registered our marriage six months ago?"
Noah was indeed clueless.
Only then did his wife say, "Because they wanted to observe your character and personality in depth. My parents would only invite our friends and family to witness our wedding once they are satisfied with your character."
Noah smiled. "That should be the way. After all, with such a big family business, before handing over such a big company to me, they can test me however they like. After what you said today, I guess your parents are going to hold a wedding ceremony for us?"
