Jennie and Lori both turned around simultaneously and saw a tall, lean man, who was already in his 50s and yet still looked imposing and formidable. He was staring at the both of them with a frown on his forehead.
Lori paused. Her mother, on the other hand, cocked her head to the side and looked at him, then looked again. Then, she called out in surprise.
"You...you're... You’re Seany?"
'Seany?'
Sean Ford paused. How long has it been since anyone addressed him as Seany? Come to think of it, the last time must have been more than 40 years ago. Even his lawfully wedded wife, Rose, never addressed him in this manner.
"You are..." Sean's tone turned friendlier. He thought to himself that someone who addressed him as Seany must be an old friend. A very, very, old friend; and she must have been a close friend at that.
"It’s Jen, Seany, I'm Jen." Jen, who was already in her early 50s suddenly spoke like a little girl, her tone becoming soft, carrying a hint of a girlish whine.
Jen?
Sean paused to think hard.
"I'm the..." Jen curled her hands into fists beside her head, forming the shape of two braids.
Sean:
"The first time I met you, you were already eighteen, but back then, I was only... Only six. I sat on my brother -in-law’s shoulders, but still, I was only half a head taller than you. You even fed me cotton candy. Have you forgotten?"
Sean's eyes brightened. Then he said in a tone that was almost a cheer of delight. "You... You're the six-year-old girl?"
In his mind, she was still the six or seven-year-old little girl, who later grew into a twelve-year-old girl.
When they were younger, the little girl was treated like a little princess. Back then, the Ford family was very close to the Shaw family, often interacting with each other. The Ford family was blessed with numerous children, but they had more sons than daughters. The only daughter in the Ford family had been sent abroad by Henry Ford since she was a young girl to study in a boarding school; that was why there were no chattering girls in the Ford family.
