Sabrina said nothing.
She really did not want to answer Marcus's call but when she was going through her nightly skincare routine, she placed her phone on the top of her bedside drawer. Her husband who was already lying i n bed saw the incoming call and immediately answered, then placed the phone beside her ear.
Sabrina turned and glanced at her husband. She was afraid he would get jealous. When he was jealous, she would suffer. Throughout the afternoon she had already been tormented by him in his office. Mere hours had passed since then. She trembled at the thought of it but she knew how strong he was. He could regain his strength within half an hour.
"Uhm...Cousin Marcus... It's already past eleven p.m. Why are you calling at this late hour?” Sabrina asked.
On the other end, Marcus smiled wryly and said, "I've been accompanying my grandfather in his room. As long as he remains awake, I cannot leave him. He just fell asleep, so I took the chance and left.”
Actually, Marcus had not been honest with her. If he was really accompanying his grandfather, it did not matter whether the old man was asleep or not; he could still leave the room for a second to make a phone call.
However, tonight, Lori Gibson and her mother, Jennie Gibson had visited his grandfather, bringing with them a little girl. The herbs that they had left under his grandfather's pillow touched the entire Shaw family.
Especially the old man himself. After all, he practically brought Jennie up himself, loving her like his own. That was why he grew close with her again within a short period of time.
That night, both Jennie and her daughter, Lori stayed beside the old man, passionately talking to him about the events of the past and telling him some jokes.
The old man, who was in poor health, ate as much as half a chicken thigh, and even drank milk and ate a salad. He looked much livelier.
Watching as the old man grew livelier, Marcus and his parents grew increasingly grateful to the mother and daughter duo. After dinner, the two of them stated that they wanted to accompany the old man for a chat with him, so Marcus’s father agreed. However, even when it was past 10 p.m. at night, Jennie and her daughter did not even mention leaving.
Marcus knew what they wanted. It was obvious that they wanted to stay in the Shaw family residence!
