"But all that had a price. I never was someone who possessed pride to begin with, and there's a price for suddenly turning my life around to live like a human being, and to attend parties dressing like a high-status lady. His ex-girlfriend came back and wanted t o kill me. I was going to give up, Noah, I was, but then I realized that the only thing that gives me the pride to live on is you and Mom. You are the one that made me realize what it truly meant to have a husband. We might not have actually been together, but I think of you as my husband from the bottom of my heart. And then there's Mom. I once had parents of my own, and they are still well and alive up until this day, but they have never given me even a little warmth and love. Your mom is the only one who made cotton shoes and cotton pants for me. Two months ago, I came down with a fever. Mom was worried that it might affect the baby and, despite being of old age, she stayed up all night wiping my body with cold towels. She is the mother that cares most about me. I've been through so much to finally find you and Mom. I have spent the past four months happily and I feel like my life is complete now. I am so happy and content, Noah. You and Mom are different from me, as you are people of integrity, but I'm not. That's been decided since the day I was born. I was nothing but a puppy to my family, and a slave to my in-laws before being kept as a pet by Master Alex. I've never been someone of
integrity. Don't waste your life on me, Noah. Live your life with Mom. Work and save up to marry another wife; it doesn't matter if it's someone who had divorced before. Give birth to a few children and your life will be completed again. Listen to me, Noah, go back! Goback!"
After saying that, Jane turned around to look at Alex, who was frozen in rage. Jane crawled her way toward him and clung onto his feet.
"Mr. Poole, please let my Noah go. He has nothing to d o with this! Four months ago, if only he had known that I'm the woman your fiancee is itching to kill, he wouldn't have rescued me. He didn't know what was going on, I was the one who tricked him by not mentioning my relationship with you. Mr. Poole. You are not really that bad of a person, are you? You were s o kind when you rescued me, and you are actually a really nice person, right? You won't kill someone innocent, would you? Let Noah go, he... He still has an old mother to take care of. Let him go. Noah really has nothing to do with this! I'm begging you, please, Master Alex! Let him go, please let him go! I'll go back with you right now. I won't even think of killing myself ever again. I'll let your fiancee do whatever she wants with me. Anything at all. Cut me open, strip me naked, and find someone to rape me, anything!
Anything, as long as you let Noah go. I'll bow down to you, please..." 1
Jane was going to bow her head to Alex respectfully, a s she simply could not think of a better way to get
Alex to let Noah go. At that very moment, even if she was told to bark like a dog, she would have happily done so, as long as Noah got to go.
"Jane! No! Do not bow down to him! We can die together! Jane!" Noah cried out in a tormented voice.
Jane ignored him and continued to lower her head before Alex in tears. Right before her head could make contact with the ground, her jaw was held in place by Alex.
His arm, as stiff as iron, clamped onto her jaw and lifted her face up fiercely. Her face was drenched in tears and Alex asked in an extremely cold tone, "Am I really that evil to you?"
